Vat and ebay
 

I have a real eBay and PayPal account both in my name and address. I registered the eBay account as a business account a few years back. I am now getting emails from eBay saying I have reached 85k in sales over the last 12 months and they need my VAT number. I am not registered for vat and if I do this extra 20% would wipe out all profits. Any ideas on how I can resolve this

Ok? What’s with the chip on your shoulder? You could have simply said they will not allow you to trade until you provide vat number. Don’t quite see the need for the attitude. I thought this forum was specifically designed for help and advise not abuse unless I am misunderstanding the point of this forum?

If registering for VAT will wipe your profit then you clearly need to move to a new niche or find better suppliers.
Your profit margin is just too thin.


By the way, if you register for VAT now, you can claim VAT you’ve paid for some of your expenses (Business related) going back up to four years I suppose. This includes Shipping cost when you send items to your customers if you use royal mail business account.


We’ve had hand full of stealth go over the threshold in 2018 but these were never suspended. Just locked from putting up new listings. All associated PayPal accounts are still working OK.
