Thanks for the replies.

What about if I was earning £2000-£3000 a month consistently on eBay. Would you or anyone recommend me to start thinking about going full time if I was earning that much?

I would not gonna leave my job. Because you can do ebay in free time/weekend/after work

You may not even get that money back from PayPal these days.

It will be difficult to quit my job when I earn more on eBay as I enjoy socialising with people at work and eBay can be a lonely place working on your own but my goal for now is just to try and earn as much money as possible from eBay so if it does take up my time and my income is better than my job than I would have to really consider it then.

So you're prepared to work 8 hours a day to be able to socialise? Imagine how much socialising you could do when you're not working 8 hours a day.

Ebay selling isn't about sitting in some dark room all day isolated from the world. You could just work a few hours a day, then spend the rest of the time enjoying. I have never been "lonely" doing ebay for 14 years. I never set an alarm in the morning unless I have to travel somewhere, I go out for coffee in the morning to socialise, come home and do some work, go to the resturant for lunch, come home do a little more work, go to the gym, in the evening meet some people, bars, nightclubs, whatever.

Agreed. Most people want to keep working their jobs cause they just aren't entrepreneurs. Which is fine, less competition for us

A wise person once said 'Most people are too busy earning a living to ever make any money'

If you can understand that you will answer your own question

I have been trading on the internet from when Ebay first started - and Ebay is not the only venue

If you don't do it now when will you do it - I have been tutoring one of my granddaughters and now she is away on her own

Research, research and then research some more

I think it’s because I failed eBay years ago and at the time I was just working by myself and it was a struggle to get by I didn’t do it right back then which is why I’m probably use to the life I have now working in a day job and doing eBay when I can. My goal this time around is to be financially stable and I’m getting their not worrying about money anymore which is a good feeling.

If I’m at a level where I am earning more than my day job consistently then I will have to leave my job otherwise I am limiting myself to earning so much and theirs a lot more to life than just to limit yourself only here one once make the most of it.

Well, if you left your job then you would be more concentrated on Ebay and thus your earnings shoud go up.

Also, I don't know what kind of job you do, but perhaps it's the kinf of role that you could take up again in the future if thing's went wrong.

Remember, as Warren Buffet said "The rich invest in time, the poor invest in money"

Is trading (not just Ebay) going to be your job or your hobby? That will dictate your answer

the sad part about doing Ebay full time or part time is that if you have a housefull of antiques, collectibles, out of production merchandise and do well, once they are sold, you wil be like the rest ,looking for suppliers for saleable items and many sellers have already beaten you to Aliexpress,Alibaba,ETC.
Your supplier is also selling on Ebay or some kid in the family is trying out for fun and be happy to make 25 cents per item while you are trying to make enough to pay rent, food, health insurance.car insurance.utilities.

Everyone has the right to talk like an idiot - please don't abuse that right

Trading on the internet involves a lot more than selling what you hsve at home

I have been tutoring one of my granddaughters and after 3 months she now has a carreer - she is an internet trader

Because you appear to be incapable of finding your way through please do not assume everyone else is in the same mindset as you

Research, research and then research some more

OK another question - what sort of turnover are you guys doing to earn a comfortable living off eBay? Not the millionaires. How much stock are we having to buy to make a nice profit?

That really has no answer. We have no idea what you sell, how much volume you can do, what your profit margin is or what your expenses and future expenses would be.

I personally sell tens of thousands of items at a few dollar profit each to live my lifestyle. Years ago when I made real money and busted my ass all day everyday, I would sell hundreds of items a day for a few dollars profit. I would also sell dozens of items I made $10-20 on each day and I also sold items every day I made hundreds of dollars on. That required a lot of work and dedication. There was significant investments and stress. These days, Im never stressed.

Re: When should you consider doing eBay full time?

Never consider eBay full time. The problem isn't making enough money. Anybody could drive around in a van and find £80 worth of stuff to sell on eBay every day. That's easy. The problem is eBay/Paypal could shut you down at any second. Consider diversifying into other venues like Amazon, Etsy, your own website, etc.. and if that looks like something you could scale up then go for it but to rely on eBay is bad news.
