| | | aspkin | 09-30-2007 02:12 AM | Making the forums Private - Fear that EBAY sees what we post Before I take this step and make 90% of the forums private. I want to see how you guys feel about it.
Reasons to make the forum private:
- New information to circumvent eBay and other networks will not be public.
- Membership fees will help pay for server costs.
- No unnecessary advertising.
- A more personal and safe environment.
- Added features
All current members of course will not be forced to pay any member fees. This only pertains to new members (sign up now before the forums go private).
Again the top two reasons to make the forums private is of course to keep any new information private, and to help pay for server costs.
What do you guys think? |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 02:28 AM | my only problem is the fees. i came to find this forum when i was down and outed from ebay.i was broke man!! no way would i have been able to pay. i was happy to see someone giving the info out for free. i had also already bought that ezbook which was pushing the flyswatter program.
hey, if you start charging let us current members stay for free dude!!!!!!!       |
| aspkin | 09-30-2007 02:34 AM | Of course. As mentioned in the first post. |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 02:35 AM | plus:
how can you guarantee that no ebay employee has paid the fee and in the forum???? will you financially/legally guarantee this?????? if i get shut down because of something i said on your site, will you reimberse me. f*** i do not remember how to spell re-emberse. i'm drunk butches!!!!!! |

OOOOOPS!!!
SORRY ASPKIN.
BUT...
I'M DRUNK BIATCHES |
| aspkin | 09-30-2007 02:40 AM | Drunk, how nice.
Of course I can't guarantee eBay will not be watching, I'm sure they are already. It's just the information as a whole won't be public, and less likely to be leaked out to eBay. |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 02:50 AM | another marvel "what if"
aspikn, let's say you start charging. turning a financial profit from this forum. or even a member's area only forum. ebay get's in there and buys an ebay account from an "authorized ebay account seller" (no offense C just being real for aspkin's sake) ebay does a full investigation and sues them. in turn they can (i think, talk to a lawyer) sue you. you made a profit from it, right? when you make money from it it turns into a different kind of liability.
i hope i am wrong but please talk to a lawyer first. |

But yeah that was the same thing I was thinking Spike for the most part...
and I'm drunk too and just left the bar.. My girl best friend gives me dirty looks ..Maybe she is just mad because she hasn't rode in the Mon'te carlo |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 02:55 AM | i hate dui's and only drink at home. that way anytime is a good time to drink!!
i wondered what happened to your post |
| Chris Hanson | 09-30-2007 02:58 AM | Shyt yeah, i caught a DUI a month ago but thanks to the internet I think I can beat it. If not oh well wont hurt me...... Just some cash I have to fork out |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 02:59 AM | i don't F*** around with it. a dui and they can search your car and give you a blood test. F*** that!!! |
| Chris Hanson | 09-30-2007 03:04 AM | Well Spike you wrong. You can always refuse if your not under arrest.. But I'm not about to talk about my case on the net if you know what I mean. Hope you can respect that...hehehehehe
I got to keep the juicy details between me and my lawyer...
But afterwards i will let the world know the truth |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 03:06 AM | i'm just saying it's not worth driving drunk in this day and age. bars and night clubs always (for me at least) lead to dui and fights. either way the police is involved. i would rather drink at home with people i know around me. if we get into it no big deal, crash on the couch and i'll see you tomorrow (around noon. true playas don't get out of bed till noon anyway) |
| Chris Hanson | 09-30-2007 03:07 AM | Very Very true. I heard that from so many people since i caught this Dui...
Thats what I always do for the most part
Hold on except for the fights..hehehe
Because I'm 6'3 220 Lb... So usually people dont step to me unless they need help |
| aspkin | 09-30-2007 03:10 AM | As I answered with my last post you drunken *******s, I can't guarantee eBay will not be watching what you're posting and using it against you. It's a risk we all take; actually I don't see a risk at all; As long as you don't disclose your private information. EBay has nothing on you. I take the biggest risk out of everyone. Maybe making the forums private will lower that risk, maybe not. But it will help with server cost. |
| Chris Hanson | 09-30-2007 03:13 AM | Hummm.. Never know.. but what I got to tell may set this forum on fire and make hell feel like winter |
| Chris Hanson | 09-30-2007 03:14 AM | Aspkin you should make a Saturday night special drunken chill spot forum for us drunken *******s |
| aspkin | 09-30-2007 03:15 AM | Yeah I was thinking about a forum for off-topic posters like you guys. |
| spike1 | 09-30-2007 03:19 AM | sorry about the being off topic aspikn. i wondered when you were going to say something about it! hey man, you should not have a drunk "mood" available if you can't handle it, or create the post so late at night/morning.
but on topic, talk to a lawyer. when you charge for the info i think it opens you up to a whole different kind of liability. charging for advertisers is one thing, charging to access the info is another |

But afterwards i will let the world know the truth | depends on your record. every time i get pulled over there is some kind of note on my record that says they have to call in an extra car before telling me to step out o the vehicle (IF they call in my info first). i did do alot of stupid sh** when i was younger. last time i was pulled over though, i was in a rental car at the border of my state at 2:30 in the morning. they just gave me a ticket and said head home. they would not, however, let me out of the car.............. there was two cops in that car anyway... so they had both sides of the car covered. one youthful mistake and they never forget!!!
i'm 6 foot even but 310 pounds baby!!! alcohol makes cowards in to idiots!!!!
OFF TOPIC AGAIN!! SORRY ASPKIN!!! LOVE YOU!!!++++BURP+++++ |
| coopster72 | 09-30-2007 08:01 AM | Damn and I though I was the only one who got drunk and rambled on on this forum. |
| coopster72 | 09-30-2007 08:25 AM | Yes, I agree with the private membership. But the site has to be more than just a forum. You will need to compile ALLLLLL this information into a website worth paying for. There's a ton of information here and it needs organizing. It would really be a lot of work on your part.
If it were me I would charge a monthly fee. Hell, without this site I would not be making the money I am right now. On and off of Ebay. I could see a $20 sign up fee with a $5 monthly fee. That would be fair as long as the content was more than a forum. |
| imjustme | 09-30-2007 08:26 AM | How would they know who to sue if it's all ⊗⊗⊗⊗ info? Just a suggestion, maybe make a private area of the forum where the more veteran people discuss the new tricks and ideas. Then use the public forum area to advise newcomers what to do without giving them access to the 'top secret' tricks. Quote:

| x2ruff4u | 09-30-2007 10:41 AM | Ah i was once on a forum about 5 years ago doing the same thing. What they did is they didnt let the people see the forum unless they were actualy logged in. So then you would know who they are. ^^
You accept the liabilty of doing bogus info etc yourself. Paying for information how to do it and get in trouble by doing it, sounds kinda wrong in a way but im not to sure on that.
My thoughts and ideas ^^ |
| aspkin | 09-30-2007 01:12 PM | Organizing all information in this forum would take work. But if that's what it takes to make membership a deal, then that's what will happen. |
I agree with coopster. I think taking the forum private with an initial and then monthly fee will bring in those that really need and *possibly* discourage leaks. But I also agree that the info thus far needs to be consolidated a little more if it's a for pay site, or at least the guide needs to be updated with what we know (paypal's new linking system to old account, etc) |
| aspkin | 09-30-2007 08:55 PM | Yep so it's official. I'm 99% sure the forums will be private in 1-3 weeks. I'm now creating an Ultimate Q&A and eBay suspension guide to give away to new and current members with all details about eBay. Hopefully I'll be done sooner, but if you're not a member of this forum and just lurking. This is the time to join before things turn private. Just a warning. |
| ebook767360 | 10-01-2007 09:26 AM | points to consider fees will hinder more talents to this forum.
i bet ebay will still input spys into the forum to gather information to hunt us down like they always do
information will be more discreet, thus a safer place.
i bet more free sites like this will pop up if it becomes a success.
ebay will have a way to deal with us by asking for more security and verification, but ebay will lose more customers. in the other hand since ebay cant see us personally we can do whatever we want to use ebay anyway.
i worried that ebay would try means to close down this information shared forum.
just my point of view... |
| ebook767360 | 10-01-2007 10:09 AM | how abt presenting suspended account verification an additional requirement.
Giving ebay Trust and Security more work to do :P :P like they did to us.
like user name suspended ebay user and re-created ebay user?,
details , email from ebay trust and security regarding account suspension.
and this information will only be shared with the adminstrators. |
| ebaykilla | 10-01-2007 01:59 PM | We have enough talent here to bounce ideas off of....make it private & just make new members pay and all of the OGz in for free! |
| aspkin | 10-01-2007 06:39 PM | That's the plan. |
| Chris Hanson | 10-01-2007 10:57 PM | Thats a good way to hustle more money from free members. Kick them off and have them come back on as paying member which equals more $$$$.. |
| aspkin | 10-02-2007 01:40 AM | Lol, I don't condone that. That's just wrong. |
| AndreasF | 10-02-2007 02:06 AM | :)
The forum might actual benefit from a 'spring cleaning'....what is the estimated ratio between 'lurkers' and posters??
Cheers |
| aspkin | 10-02-2007 02:13 AM | Probably 80% lurkers and 20% posters. |
| vers0 | 10-02-2007 03:45 AM | Aspkins, been a member for about 3 weeks and I'm behind you 100%. The information is priceless and it takes money to make more money. I think all of us can make this forum even better than what it is now. Aspkins, I think you should have a backup web address just in case ebay tries to shut this down. Information is one thing however excepting money changes everything (Even if it is only for maintaining your servers.) |
| Chris Hanson | 10-02-2007 06:22 AM | Dang, this thread made the lurkers come out like roaches when the light came on. Or like relatives coming out from the wood work when you hit the lottery..
People I that haven't post in hear before is all of a sudden posting now |
| spike1 | 10-02-2007 08:11 AM | the word is out!!
they want to get in before they have to pay.
(sure glad i'm already in!)
i don't know about anyone else here but i would buy an aspkin.com t-shirt to help cover aspkin's costs. now i'm not saying aspkin should "sell out" and start selling mugs, pens, and other crap. a shirt is different. you wear it out in public and someone recognizes it, you will REALLY have something in common to talk about. |
| x2ruff4u | 10-02-2007 11:22 AM | lmao aspkin t shirt! Yah and then well get the aspkin ebay strike flags, and alllllll of us go marching down there and start a petition lmao
Hell i would even buy an aspkin hat! |
| Chris Hanson | 10-02-2007 05:46 PM | If people are going to be paying why don't you have a chill spot thread where we can kind of talk off topic? | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:31 PM. | |
