Buyer returned item, not delivered though.
 

Hi. I sold a car engine to somebody, so not exactly a small item. Anyway the buyer recieved it and after 2 weeks messaged me saying it was not running right and wanted to return it. Anyway I accepted the return and asked him to return to my garage address in the resolution centre messages.

Anyway when he booked the courier he gave them my home address, which when informed I was pretty upset as there is no way to take delivery at an engine at my home address. So I emailed the courier to asked them to deliver to my garage which they said they would do.

Ok now fast forward 2 weeks he has posted the engine, tracking shows it was collected, transported and has been stuck on “out for delivery” since 14th th August . There is absolutely no sign it was delivered or attempted to be delivered to us, however today the buyer has messaged some kind of reciept to me, which apparently shows it was delivered on the 14th. I am pretty sure it has not been delivered, and if it has it definitely isn’t come to our garage.

The reciept in question has the company name and tracking printed on it, along with my address and then my garage address (Hand written in scruffy writing) then some Random 3 letters for a signature and a date of 14/08 Nect to it.

Yesterday the buyer escalated it to eBay and they have put it on hold until 31st.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I’ve asked him to send me contac details for the courier but he is not being too co operative anymore as he says it’s been delivered and has done his part

what kind of tracking number did he give you?
If a case is open,he has to give Ebay the tracking number and it should be trackable online with a commercial carrier showing it has been returned to the address stated in the return details and signed for if it is over $750

The company is closed due to corona. No phone lines. You have to “submit a ticket” online. The tracking is viewable online but it’s s pallet company so it’s not with any of the big major caompanies.

is there someone in your garage who can sign for the engine?
If your buyer knows what he is doing,when he opens a case with Ebay saying you have not refunded him,he should add the name of the carrier and the tracking number in the case.
Ebay bot has to go to that company website and use the tracking number to find the status of the shipment,it works well with USPS,FED EXP,UPS but other private carriers it could run into problem navigating the site and interpreting the tracking results.
So an Ebay rep will probably need to get involved,manually go to the site and looking for tracking results.
what is the official return address you have with Ebay,what did Ebay give to the buyer?
In MY Ebay,you should have an address for buying,for receiving mail from Ebay,for shipping as a seller,and for return from your buyer,?

Hmm. Well the tracking doesn’t show delivery, but he claims the piece of paper from the company that has does show it. Potentially, if it’s been delivered it could be to the wrong garage, the signature on his paper is incomprehensible. When I check online it says “in transit”

I’m just worried eBay will refund him and I’ve not got my engine back or the money. And this company is useless when trying to get some help (Pallex)

who paid for the shipping? If it was you, then your SOL. You're responsible for getting it delivered to yourself. Thanks ebay. A return doesn't have to show delivered for ebay to push the refund.

Well it was a pallet delivery so I just accepted return and said already sent label. Then left it to the buyer to organise.

If the tracking doesn't show delivered, online, then I would never settle for refunding the buyer.

No item(that the tracking shows delivered), no refund. I've never had it any other way.

That never stops eBay from refunding buyers...

best to call eBay if they do and see if their CS can stop the refund and deal with it. But chances are small.

If you have free returns, then it doesn't matter if it's delivered or not. YOU are just as responsible for getting the item TO the buyer, as you are getting the item back FROM the buyer.

If the buyer has returned it to the address shown on ebay then they will get a refund whether it is delivered or not. They merely need to show they sent it.

Only if you do free shipping. If buyer buys the label, then it's THEIR responsibility to deliver it to you.

The tracking he entered in the case must show delivered and in US,if $750 or more,signed for by someone at that address,
piece of paper is no online viewable tracking from a commercial carrier

why cant you ask him to call the original pallet company,did they use another company to deliver to your garage?

Not so,I have been returning a few items which I bought from different sellers on EBay this month,return address is provided by the seller/ebay,only when it shows delivered,then I get the refund,I just got one today as it has been delivered.
if I buy my own return shipping label,then I add that label tracking number to the case and only when tracking showed delivered,then I get my refund.

Again, I have lost more than one return case that never got delivered, because ALL the buyer had to do was show that they dropped the package off at the post office. That's all. As long as pickup is confirmed, that's all ebay needed. And trust me, I fought it tooth and nail
