Does Hotmail reveal users' IPs?

Is there a risk of revealing one's IP address by simply allowing hotmail to show the pictures embedded in an email?

I know Gmail does host such imagery on their servers, does Microsoft do the same?

Yes there is. From what I know Hotmail does NOT follow the same practices as google does when it comes to displaying images.

I can 3rd this. Hotmail's database has been breached multiple times and has had their users information leaked.
