What happens if I REMOVE my SS# from Ebay and/or Paypal?
 

What the title says. :) I have had the info in there for a while, but am considering tearing it out. Would Ebay instantly stop me from getting any more of my funds? Would they instantly cut off my selling ability (listing, editing, etc.)? Or do they just start sending notices and after a set time then block me? And if so, about how long would I have?

Same question for Paypal: is there an instant reaction (as in limiting collecting funds and sending invoices, etc.) or do they start sending you messages and then eventually do it?

EDIT: If flat out just removing it won't work, I could just change it to all 1's (which is not a real SS). Which would cause them to be unable to verify my identity, resulting in the same scenario as just removing it would have.

Removing the SSN# might not make much difference since that info is stored very easily on their end...

There is a tendency for info given to eBay/PayPal to be stored....

I guess you can remove it if you want to but it’s not like eBay or PayPal will delete the record on their end, they still will have your SSN on record

It's stored in their database. Unless you have a way to access it (lmk if you do) it's stored forever

Thanks for all the replies. But none of them have really answered my questions. And I'd like to know that info BEFORE making any changes or it could be quite dire for me.

Why would he be trolling? none of us can give you an answer to what happens on ebay's back end with something like this, and only ebay themselves would know. So you're just slightly more likely to get an answer from them as you are from us. I also don't think any of us have tried to remove the SS number, because we know they already ahve that info and it's not going anywhere. Putting a new number, even ⊗⊗⊗⊗, MIGHT work. I used an old EIN number on paypal from an inactive company I had.

1st of all, they always keep all info even if you're able to delete them.
2nd when you change any kind of personal info your account risks of getting flagged as if someone else is accessing your account and they might want to verify it's you

Ebay does NOT like answering questions about their security protocols. So even if they did answer, I couldn't be sure their answer was the truth. That should be 101 level knowledge for anyone who stealths.

Also, I'm sure there are others on the forum who have done this in the past and can educate me on the results. I have myself, but it's been a few years now. So I don't remember.

Saijin: obviously. Hence why I asked for feedback on what EXACTLY happened from people who have done it before. :)
