Weird Problem

I got a email from apple inc lawyers as an pdf attachment yesterday.
This email is linked to a totally stealth ebay which has not been used DORMANT since 2019.
Now the Apple inc letter says this email and stealth address was used on a package shipping counterfeit apple chargers and was sold from a totally unknown ebay id which is not mine.
My question is: should I totally treat this as Spam and ignore it as this is not my ebay account that was caught selling these chargers.
But why do they have my email address and stealth mailing address?
Any suggestions?

Re: Weird Problem

Did you sell chargers from that account?

Re: Weird Problem

So reply to them that this is a mistake.

Re: Weird Problem

Don't reply. It's a spammer who somehow has your email address, maybe from a transaction they did with you, maybe from a mailing list they've purchased, who has sent you a pdf hoping you'll open it. Which you duly did.......

Assuming they haven't infected the pdf their next option is to provoke replies, validating the email address, knowing they've 'hooked a sucker' and allowing them to take you further down the scam line.

Re: Weird Problem

If you were ever going to get contacted by Apple for something regarding this there would be a letter in the post to the name and address of said account from there lawyers, they would not be sending you a PDF

Re: Weird Problem

^^Agreed with above.

Customs sends seizure notice to Apple lawyers, Apple lawyers mail you a nasty letter.

Hank and jamthedeejay are right - Don't reply to this OP - any valid communication from lawyers would be via registered mail

Re: Weird Problem

^^Not true. They sent me a letter untracked First Class.

Right - they can send letters untracked but it isn't considered "legal proof" communication since you haven't signed to receive it and there is no proof of delivery. Part of the scare tactics...if you had kept doing the same activity, eventually a registered letter would come or, worse, charges, etc

Re: Weird Problem

its from Anderson, Sarah <SAnderson@kilpatricktownsend.com>

And they sent both letter and pdf as per the email.
I googled this email and it seems like lawyers from apple.
If I respond I dont want them to link me to this fraudster who used my email and stealth address.
Any suggestions.

Any suggestions....as we're all anonymous here then tell the truth! There is no fraudster using your email address, it's you who sold the chargers.

So, lets start again.... :)

Re: Weird Problem

When did you sell the products? 2019 or recently? Be honest nobody here will judge you!!!

Re: Weird Problem

So what exactly do they want from you? Their site seems pretty legit.

ghackett5 02-19-2022 11:17 AM

Re: Weird Problem

As I told you before I have not sold any chargers. Also this account was dormant from selling ever since MP started as it was stealth with stealth name/address.
I dont care about the name or address as its stealth but the email is actual.
And the ebay account they listed on the letter is absolutely not mine and loaded with neg feedback.

Re: Weird Problem

What they want is a reply acknowledging you fraudulently sold those chargers from that ebay account (which I have not!) and sign that you wont do it again.
BUT why the F would I even reply to such BS and implicate myself..
What I felt like doing was telling them to stop spamming me but then again I did not want to even get myself involved in this.
