| | | powerbid | 10-14-2007 11:13 AM | POLL: Has anyone given a thought to start our own auction site? it might sound a bit awkward.. but it is an idea..
the idea behind is... why dont we just start own auction site? we are hit bad by ebay.. we hate ebay (as much as love it) we know wat and how it should be ? y cant we just focus onto an idea a unique one somehow different than ebay.. why not lets join our hands?
remember linux? it is a free distro... with developers all over the world let me know what do u all think of this??? |
| eBayNews | 10-14-2007 01:26 PM | Time and money it would take to create a site that could compete with eBay would be too much. Yahoo failed... Google hasn't even tried yet... and these guys are giants. An open source project can go only so far. For it to succeed there would need to be large media attention to bring in the traffic. The only hope I see is if Google starts to work on something that can get the job done. |

remember linux? it is a free distro... with developers all over the world let me know what do u all think of this??? | even though its a long shot, everything starts with a idea...someone said hey! lets build rome, and it was done, someone also said...what if we could fly to the moon, that was done, and last but not least george bush rigged his own election based off of 1 state, so why couldn't you build your own auction site. |
| koalawash | 10-26-2007 10:15 PM | Yes, and I wish it were possible. But until eBay is gone for good I'm afraid the idea will remain no more than a pipe dream. When eBay started out it was actually doing something novel and fresh.. plus they had no competition to deal with. This is the key difference between what they did, and trying to start something similar today. Serious sellers will always gravitate toward the site with the most traffic, all else being equal.. doesn't matter if that site is run by a morally bankrupt corporate entity. |

| koalawash | 10-26-2007 10:37 PM | Look, I'm not saying it's impossible.. I'm just saying, it's a lot more practical to focus on weakening eBay right now. That seems like an unavoidable prerequisite.
EDIT: Well, I know some of us are selling on eBay right now. :o But it's just a fact that there won't be room for any serious competition if eBay stays as popular as it is now. At the moment, I think it is slowly but steadily declining in popularity.. |

| mr burns | 10-27-2007 01:14 AM | It is possible but if you look at the other auction sites out there they have no traffic.
In order to get the kind of traffic that e bay does you will have to advertise on a global scale.
We could possibly open our own auction site, that wouldn't be much of a problem. But to bring
down the walls of this monster we would need a great deal of money to get our name out into the community. Lets face it e bay is on the down slide, and something big like opening a new auction site would only hurt them more and is a fantastic idea,Money would be the ammunition to drop this demon to its knees and the day that happens it will be truly a great day for us all |

| vers0 | 11-06-2007 08:50 PM | I do not believe that eBay will let things slide to the point that it will destroy their company. eBay has to be tough with sellers to protect their investment. EBay is here to stay if you like it or not. |
| greg2414 | 07-14-2008 02:02 PM | Why do you all want ebay to go so badly. I know they are right ... you know whats BUT the buyers are there, it's easy pickings and alot to make there if you arent selling vero. My 2 cents, i ent whiner but a winner. A wicked quote i saw earlier ;) |
| mantisinc | 07-15-2008 01:18 AM | Greg - this thread is over a year old... |
| Jonas | 07-30-2008 03:36 PM | If you do lots of mutual withdraws, eBay will flag you for fee avoidance. |
| mtime88 | 08-05-2008 01:02 PM | There are alot of people who think to do this. But they will never become as big as ebay. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 03:18 PM. | |
