If you get SMS as the only way to verify then you look like a hacker to eBay. You’re way too anonymous in eBay eyes.

I think he meant eBay is forcing him to send a sms to phone number to log in. This happens when cookies gets deleted, new device or new ip provider

Nah, I've never had ebay ask me to send a text to them ever, never seen it mentioned here either.

They are saying that every time they log in they are getting the standard 'confirm it's you' message with a code and they want to bypass it.

It only happens when you sign in with no cookies on a different ip + device. If only one is different they ask for email or sms. But when you sign in with something like TOR + VPN then it’s SMS only

Like I said, I have never been asked to message or email ebay to merely log into my accounts new or old....ever. I use many machines, VM's, and browsers which delete cookies with many different IP's.

I doubt anyone else has either if this forum is anything to go by, but as I said, this is simply OP looking to negate the standard verification message, they are not being asked to sent a text message to ebay.

If he doesn’t have that phone number anymore that account is toast. He trigged the bots and it will remain locked until they verify it’s him trying to sign in. He would have to call support and maybe answer some identity questions to update it to a new number

He has to be on a virtual machine or anti detect browser and is deleting cookies and changing ip every login

Guessing some wannabe security programmer turned up the sensitivity way too high

Whilst I know what you mean, the wording of your post is adding some confusion into the mix.

Ebay never force anyone to send sms or email.

What they do is they require the user to RECEIVE a text on their phone and then to input that number in order to login.

Hardly going to solve the problem until he's able to receive the SMS and logged in and able to create some cookies.

Yeah I worded it wrong from typing too fast. I meant eBay is trying to send the OP a SMS to his phone number on file to login. Anyone with common eBay knowledge should know eBay would never ask the OP to send a SMS to eBay that’s ridiculous and sounds like a scam

If you look a little suspicious you will get both email and sms, but when you look like you're getting hacked its SMS only.

And how old does a number have to be to be used to verify
Let’s say I no longer have the original number & I add new number april 10th
Would they use the new number in 1 month ?
Or still try the old number

It’s instantly available for OTP security verification purposes unlike PayPal. But this rarely happens assuming you’re not deleting your cookies and changing IP providers. Most of the time it’s email or sms

However, you cant login to change the number without first getting the sms. Its a catch-22

call them from your new number and explain you've changed numbers. They'll have a security procedure to allow you to change it, it's not going to be the first time nor the last it's happened to folk.
