Ending listings

Does ending active listings cause a flag for a manual review in the eBay system?

Is it better to change the quantity to 1 and let the listing sell out instead?

I’d forget and my account would sell over my limit and I’d resort to ending the listing. Not sure if it causes a review on ebays end when I do it that way.

No, it does not. You're good.
I also use that 'out of stock" feature. It works great for me.

No ending a listing has not done me any wrong. You can always increase the price to not get any sales.

I use it too. It's a convenient way of keeping a listing 'semi-active' whilst I wait for more stock to arrive if, as there has been during the last couple of years, supply issues.

On top of the convenience angle, I was always keen to preserve sales history etc and believed it would assist when new stock landed.

But here's the issue I encountered. I have a good selling item, been running for many years but I ran out of stock and it took months to get some more. When it landed I duly updates the listing. I also pay for promoted listings. It sat there for weeks with hardly any views. So I copied the listing changing to title ever so slightly to circumvent ebays duplicate listing policy. Bingo, sales rolled in. I know ebay give new listings a little visibility boost but never realised it was going to have this much of an impact.

Anyway, the purpose of my tale as you've no doubt realised is that sometimes the convenience of the out-of-stock facility isn't always as beneficial is it seems.

Good points you have shared mate. I always use promoted listings on my items also. So far, i haven't experienced the slow in sales while using the feature, or maybe i have not much competition on the items/categories i sell.

I've got some other out of stock items at the moment, I'm going to test the duplicate listing findings again.

Hope it works well without issue - last post was quite interesting

Never had an issue with that myself

Isn’t it a better idea to try and keep listings under the radar?

If we keep a listing active that’s sold over 200 items it might be due for a review and may cause that account to get banned ?

Or does it get more attention from the bots if a listing is created?

Not at all. if you get too much disputes on a single listing, then that's alarming.

If no buyer issues, I wouldn't see any issue - I have a few low end listings that have lasted for 10+ years hah
