Successfully opening U.K. current accounts

Hi everyone,

This post is mainly aimed at U.K. sellers. I’ve always had issues in the passed opening U.K. current accounts I’m not sure if it was due to my credit score baring in mind my credit score is still not very good.

Recently I have opened Santander, Halifax, royal bank of Scotland, HSBC all accounts have been approved. I’ve already received Santander card and HSBC card waiting on other 2 to arrive. I also need to go into Barclays branch to show ID and proof of address which I have and then they will open an account for me.

I think I’ve been accepted due to saying I’ve lived at my address for 5+ years I haven't only 3/4 years and said I’ve been a machine operator for 5 years which was only 4 years until I left in February. I said salary was £23k a year with no children which I actually have 2 children and monthly outgoings around £900-£1000.

This post is mainly for U.K. sellers as previously mentioned who have struggled getting U.K. current accounts and maybe it’s worth trying some of the methods in this post as before I’ve always been declined by high street banks.

Obviously I can’t say about other counties as I only sell in U.K.

A question I was asked what is the purpose of opening an account? Answer was for my salary to be paid into baring in my mind I am no longer employed by an employer.

Another thing to mention is I used different email and phone number when registering these accounts same address of course and name so not sure if that’s why they were accepted as well.

I hope this in some way can help other sellers who struggle to get current accounts.

if you have average or higher credit score most banks would open accounts , address is not all that important if you have had a credit history for a longer period of time as all new addresses are simply added to your history

Re: Successfully opening U.K. current accounts

I just checked my credit score on clear score is 227 out of 1000 and credit karma is 439 out of 710 so it’s not great it’s always been like this clear score use to be about 150-160 but credit karma has never changed either way not complaining about being accepted for all high street banks I just need to make sure I can successfully create multiple eBay accounts now.

You can create non highstreet current accounts quite easily, if you are looking for them. Many prepaid ones available.
