Back when I was dropshipping, if an item was out of stock I'd cancel the order and choose "buyer asked to cancel" as the reason to avoid the defect. But now if you do that falsely (e.g without a previous real record of the buyer stating that they want to cancel in an ebay message before you cancel it) ebay will send you an email saying you violated their policies. And basically say they'll let you off this time but if you keep doing it they may take action including temporary band or suspend account.
I've even had emails from them like this when I legitely cancelled an order that a customer wanted to cancel, but then about 2 weeks later ebay sent me another email basically saying "sorry we made a mistake the restriction has been removed".
So I don't do that anymore I have to be honest or risk suspension. It's another reason why ebay dropshipping is not the best business model anymore.
Have you never experienced this?
