Can eBay see sender and recipient name and address details from tracking?

This is a very random question, but hopefully somebody will have the answer for me. Note: I am a UK eBay seller, but this may apply to all countries

Does anybody know if eBay is able to see the sender name/address and recipient name/address from a tracking number? do they have a system where they can look this up?

The reason I ask is mainly related to dropshipping on eBay. If I buy from my dropshipping supplier and they provide me with a tracking number for the order, and I upload this to the buyer's eBay purchase, are eBay able to see that the sender address does not match the address on my eBay account? Similarly, if they suspended my selling and requested tracking numbers for all of my recent sales, and I provided the tracking numbers, is there a way they can look them up and see that I am not the sender?

tldr; can eBay see sender/recipient details from tracking number and easily suspend me for dropshipping?

If an account was under review they can put the tracking numbers of sales made into the carriers tracking search and see that it was shipped from a different location than the sellers address.

essentially yes they can and if they find out you are shipping from a different location your seller protection goes out the window.

Since you're in UK, please put your UK flag up so we automatically know.

It depends what service is used, I know if you use royal mail then the tracking will only show which post office/ despatch office the item was shipped from so they can't tell your exact location your shipping from, but they will be able to see that your registered address is over 100 miles from the shipping location.

It's not a major risk but try not to get any other kind of attention towards your account that would result in a manual review and you're good to go.

yes from the postal code on the tracking origin location they can see a mismatch city/State. Why dont you just put the 'item location' as the one where these drop-shipping item ship from?

ok, this is what I thought. but do you know if they are able to see the actual sender details?

as a user below suggested, if they are shipping from a certain location, is it sensible to have my item location as that location? would that work or can they still see who the sender is

this is good info. thanks! that makes sense. interested to know if they can see the actual sender/recipient details or just the location steps in the tracking information

if the country is the same it is not a problem but if you provide tracking details from other countries and especially from high risk countries like china stating that items are despatched from another country then you will get a problem at some point

It depends on the carrier, I use carriers who's tracking info does not supply the senders or recipients details. If you input the tracking number into their webform it merely gives delivery updates, the latter shouldn't be a problem in an case.

I'm guessing under GDPR there's a limit as to how much info is readily available from a simple tracking number.

I only use royal mail/parcelforce and the tracking will not show the details of sender or recipient, it only shows the locations and it WILL show the name given to royal mail by the recipient if it's a "signature required on delivery" service.

so if I send an item using Royal Mail Tracked 48 for example, ebay will not be able to see the sender or recipient info? only the tracking steps? since that isn't signed for
