It takes more money and time to rely on a website for sales it generates than selling on eBay or other e-commerce platforms.

many of us who have been banned sell high risk products, so asking people to buy these high risk items from a cheap website you slapped together in 15 minutes doesnt work

the truth is that most people do not like buying on third party websites , they know sites like ebay , amazon and some others so that they do not go anywhere else to buy something , they do not react to ads etc. , they just buy in the same places and you would not be able to get to them to buy from your site even if you invest a lot and offer items there at 50% discount unless it is item that could be resold at a profit by other sellers on the same above mentioned sites

Not true, have you looked at Shopify growth? It is just a matter of how well you are at marketing and creativity.

In a previous company I owned I put the website address on the packing tape and a welcome card inside, this lead to repeat sales and a build up of the website.

If you have a unique technical product 6th can do regular blogs and videos and this keeps traffic coming back and regular sales.

Yeah but you can market on Instagram, or Google with defined parameters. I search things I sell in these marketplaces on Google and many times its Shopify website that shows up in the top results.

Ebay growth in terms of MAU's has been in decline since about 2017, making your own website is something worth learning if you're serious about protecting your future I personally think. Plus, how much do we spend on fees for these marketplaces? On eBay you want to do ads that makes it on average around 25%-30% in just fees!

Where was stealth 5 years ago, and look at it now. Things will only get harder. You can pay someone to make a website also, and just copy someone else who is successful. Add all the things that make people believe its trustable, then its about close to freedom as we get online.

I am not saying it is useless but a large portion of ebay and amazon buyers indeed do not want to buy elsewhere , they even do not want to buy on other well known marketplaces not mentioning small third party shops

in fact there is a variety of items that can be bought at discount on other sites and can be resold with profit on ebay and amazon because the sellers there do not have access to ebay / amazon and have to sell cheaper otherwise no one will buy
