How can I intentionally trigger ID verification request?
 

Is there a way to intentionally trigger ID verification/bank statement requests by eBay in the USA using eBay managed payments? I don't want them to put our shop on hold during the holiday season suddenly when we have a big spike in sales so we want to get this over with ahead of time. Have sold around $16k this year so far and < 200 items but they have SSN from years ago when transitioned to eBay MP and it was not an issue. Only concern is that eBay banned the address on the account holder's driver's license like 10 years ago on an account in a different name that they never got any ID or SSN for. The eBay account and linked bank account have a different address (ficticious). Would eBay accept a passport instead of a driver's license? If so will only US passports work or are other countries supported? Does the address on the driver's license have to match the address eBay & the linked bank account have on file?

No sure fire way to trigger it

Valid concern but eBay do account for the higher volume of sales in the holiday period

Passport is always best to use

if you sold 16K this means you are already verified , ID request may come some time later but not due to standard verification but for you specifically

it is not ID requests that are risky with volume spikes but a restriction that may come anytime if the turnover rises excessively

Approaching XMAS shopping season,Ebay will be asking sellers in certain categories such as toys for their proof of purchase from legit distributors/ manufacturers,if it is a presale ie selling merchandise not yet released to retail stores ,proof of factory invoice .
I dont know what you intend to sell come Xmas,but make sure you have the merchandise on hand or have access to such merchandise,pay attention to quantity available.
If you say you have 100 of a hot item,it will trigger Ebay alert

Awful lot of faffing, I can't understand why ebay don't simply follow Amazons policy of blocking certain sellers in the toy section over the Christmas period and restrict sales to long standing proven sellers.

maybe because they feel that they are already losing ppl to amazon so need to keep some sort of open advantage by not imposing restrictions?

Clearly, that is their choice but I was replying to agent who implied they may ask for invoices etc and OP who is concerned about a seasonal spike triggering selling issues.

...so it seems there are seasonal concerns and I merely suggested that if they're going to carry out some form of vetting then why not simply follow Amazons example.

Suspending sellers and carrying out inventory checks ain't going to generate loyalty.

you dont have to wait on ebay to restrict your account to send documents in. Ebay customer service representatives can request documents during chat even if your not restricted.

You don't have to wait long lol, it's egay. The first chance they get to scr3w you, they will do it

Doesn’t eBay also want driver’s license for USA users? I realize it’s a different industry but I noticed crypto exchanges won’t take passports from USA persons, they only take USA drivers license/state ID. I learned this the hard way when I lost my drivers license and needed to buy BTC years ago. Nobody would let me register using my USA passport.

tell them your account got hacked and you got locked out. then when they ask you a verification question say i dont know its just a "stealth account" .then painic like.. um not stealth, self .i meant to say self not stealth. its my personal account for my business"

Yeah well if you get a spike you need to properly manage it yourself by putting everything in vacation mode. It sucks when money is there to be made but if you are passing thresholds you know are high risk territory, be proactive and just use vacation mode. I should have done this many years ago, but have started recently. With the way things are now it's extremely important to use this as a means to control payment flow.

Otherwise you're leaving it up to chance.
