eBay sales tax
 

Hello,
I purchased a new iphone from apple and paid the regular sales tax. Now I sold it on ebay and the buyer paid tax on it again. Is there any way I can get my original sales tax refunded? who do I contact?
Its not right o pay sales tax on the same item TWICE.

You do not have to pay sales tax if you shows Ebay/Etsy that you are a reseller. and buy on their sites
But if you buy it from AAPL shop,then you have to pay sales tax.
It has nothing to do with your buyer ,he has to pay sales tax in his own state

you won't be able to get the original sales tax refunded unless you return the item to the shop or you are only visiting the country in which you made the purchase and show proof of receipt when you leave.

You may want to consider moving to Argentina,their new leader thinks tax is theft,the government is stealing from its citizens.
Everyone has gone MAD in Argentina,they elected an anarchist who is single ,lives with 5 Mastiff dogs,4 are named after his favorite economist ,engaged in trio sex in his younger years,besides dollarisation,he wants to rid the Central Bank and disconnect with China which is the largest soybean buyer and cuddle with USA.
Now he is in the office,he said it would take time to rid the Central Bank(it is not up to him,it is up to the Congress) and he is still taking soy bean orders from China.
I wonder what he feeds his Mastiff dogs?

sales tax is considered a tax on the buyer not on the item by the state so that it does not matter if someone else paid sales tax for the same item in the past

If her buyer returns the phone,then she can return to AAPL store and get her sales tax back.
so would her Ebay buyer from Ebay

get a resale certificate from your state or city and register with Ebay ,Etsy,then everything you buy on these sites,you pay no sales tax.

OP might not have such high business for that kind of certificate and costs

it does not take much to get a resale certificate from the state,but once you do that,it expects you to file a return.
then in my state ,every 7 years you could get audited
But it does save you money consider sales tax is 10% in most states

I did revisit this thread, its just a little strange you pay sales tax twice on a the same item. I am going to return that phone to apple and rebuy it to ship to the buyers address

In most states you need to register as a business for a sales tax number, it’s great for a business account on Amazon you are exempt from paying tax on purchases for your business after you register it with them.

same with Etsy and EBAY too,once you submitted your resale cerficate ,you dont pay sales tax on your purchase
