Does eBay actually verify the DOB/SSN?
 

I was banned on eBay about five years ago.

I recently decided to get back into selling, so I created a new eBay account, using a random name.

I just made my first sale, and now I'm being asked to provide:

*Legal name
*Legal residence
*DOB
*Last four digits of SSN

Are they actually able to verify any of this information?

I'm guessing that they couldn't, because that would require the full 9 digits of the SSN, not just the last 4 digits?

When you open a MP account,you would have to give 9 digits SSN

The only way to receive your sales proceeds on Ebay is with MP ,it deposits your fund to your bank account

yes,it is high risk item,as buyers often scam

back years ago,Ebay does not ask for our SSN,as it is using Paypal,Paypal has our SSN,now Ebay is using MP payments.
So depends on how long ago your first account was suspended,EbAY does not have SSN to compare.
Or some are using other people SSN,wife,grandma,or one even bot it on this forum,and found out IRS swoop in and ciofiscate his Paypal fund.

OP they definitely can and will verify these maybe not right away but after a certain amount of sales. So if you give BS numbers now might cause bigger problem later on.

SSN verification is a real service offered by the Social Security Administration, but from what I've read, it's primarily used by employers to verify I-9 documentation, but they charge a fee, and it requires the full 9 digit SSN.

ebay use adyen for payments and this is a bank like organization so they can check anything a bank can check

with your name and the last 4 numbers of your SSN they can verify if it is a real person or not...
They realized that you are not real.
Try to find the ssn number of that random name with which you created your account with a provider of those services.

Then how is it that any of you are able to receive your sales proceeds? If you need your full SSN to receive payouts, and you've had your first account suspended, how are you able to create a second account, using the same SSN?

It was a $300 XBOX console. Would that be considered a high risk item category?

For eBay, if it is a high-risk sale, usually with these types of scam products many times...

It is verified however if you had an account 5 years ago it shouldn't have been with MP, right? Regardless you can reuse the same information, but you should update the basics like address, phone number etc.

If you use same information as the old account it will create a link, the name itself with SSN won't cause a link to be triggered.

this is a high ticket item to sell as a first sale - coupled with the fact that it's in the electronic category...

you should building account activity slowly to this level

I've always sold used iphones on new accounts with no issue. They are my own though, I don't make new accounts often. If it's used you probably won't have an issue. So many people use eBay just for this. Not everyone is big business.
