How much does eBay buyer protection cover?
 

So I primarily post on this forum as a seller, but I do my fair share of buying as well. Have made purchases up to 500 but never much more as I’m not sure how eBay buyer protection works for the expensive stuff. They’ve always had my back on those kinda “cheaper” purchases and it’s always been fairly stress free, but there are a few items I’m now eyeing that I’m nervous to buy because they’re in the 1/2k+ range

Does anyone make purchases that expensive on eBay and ever had to open a buyer protection case? Does eBay have your back as well as they do for the cheaper stuff? Any anecdotes are appreciated

I'd contact the seller and see if he's someone you feel comfortable buying from.

For that much money, I try to stick to business sellers. An individual I look at feedback and their history and the way they make the listing.

I've seen some moron who just took a photo of the box of the item and did a 1 line description that says nothing at all and this is a $1000 item. You can tell this person doesn't give a damn and is very lazy.

Say you buy from him, and he sent you a broken item, well you open a claim, return the item then get refund

In general, always when you buy something expensive, make sure it is the account of a certified and real seller... laptop and buy it directly from the brand or large online stores...

Manufacturers would not honor warranty if you buy from indiividual on ebay,it must be from a registered retailer.
A retail receipt from an Ebay seller would not be accepted

I have recently a collectible item for 1.8k - it arrived damaged - I opened a buyer protection case, submitted photos, back and forth communication with seller and I had decision in my favour

EbAY buyer and seller protection is only 30 days,after that you will have to go to your cc issuer if you use a credit card,if you use bank fund,then you are on your own.
Make sure seller takes out insurance.
Big money changes hands on EBay,plenty of people buy gold coins and gold bullions,or rare coins and antiques and jewelry.
if you use paypal,then you get 180 days
