Ebay giving false delivery estimates?

Why has ebay started falsely estimating delivery faster than what you add to the listing? My settings are 2 working days to dispatch, 3-5 days to deliver. So basically a week. Ebay is telling buyers that purchase today (Thursday) that their orders will arrive between Saturday and Tuesday, yet in my account its telling me to dispatch before Monday. This is false expectations to buyers and just builds diappointment. Probably damaging ebays rep as much as the sellers, as a buyer will always feel "ebay is slower than it claims" rather than the specific seller on ebay is slow.

Ebay UK if it makes a difference

there seems to be a glitch that eb is not implementing processing time...i wonder if us or any other country platform is affected like this too. the 2 working days to dispatch is not being factored in - definitely an annoyance for buyers who expect things asap

if the buyer must have it ASAP,he should go to a physical store.

Interesting, so a week or 2 ago there was someone in Italy who said that eBay changed his delivery date from 2-3 days to 5-7 days+ .

This is the exact opposite of that.

It makes me wonder, is it actually eBay messing things up or did they get the info from the carrier you choose?

Re: Ebay giving false delivery estimates?

years ago, there was a very bad storm which hit the southern and Eastern states, lost of plane cancellations, and rerouting, tracking is useless, because all the mail were inside mail bags ,there is no tracking per bag and these bags were transferred from plane to plane.
Buyer file INR so Ebay amended the delivery date to like 10-15 days, but still many sellers lost their shirt.
USPS has to send eastcoast and Europe bound mail via Puerto Rico but there is only one flight per day in PR.

Frustrating to say the least, i specifically chose the longer postage to account for any "late" deliveries

Have you tried changing the shipping options you're offering and see if it makes a difference?

Re: Ebay giving false delivery estimates?

This seems to have been going on for quite some time. People on the eBay Community forums have mentioned this already.

It seems like eBay is learning from your previous dispatches, going from what you've dispatched before, and going from there. Certainly doesn't match up with what the couriers would say based on their dispatch time and your handling/dispatch time.

There were a few occurrences where Royal Mail 2nd Class, a 2-3 working day option, would give the same estimate as Royal Mail Special Delivery, which is guaranteed next day ?!
Yeah, this is an eBay bug, and will only hurt sellers who cannot match such fantasy delivery dates as eBay will allow sellers to open INR's based off delivery timescales that may be impossible to match.

It's not a few instances, it's their standard policy. Seems stupid to me. Taken from a random listing (Today is Thursday):

Free postage United Kingdom Economy Delivery (Royal Mail 2nd Class) 3 day postage Estimated between Sat, 20 Jul and Mon, 22 Jul

£0.60 United Kingdom Standard Delivery (Royal Mail 1st Class) Estimated between Sat, 20 Jul and Mon, 22 Jul

£8.90 United Kingdom Express Delivery (Royal Mail Special Delivery (TM) 1:00 pm) Estimated by Sat, 20 Jul
