Advice needed please...Is Stupid mistake going to cost me
 

Hi everyone, all advice welcome please as Ive been an idiot.

So I currently have a good private seller Ebay account that is doing very well. Last year I tried to open a new account with all the same information to have a backup incase something went wrong. I stupidly listed an item for sale straight away and the account was instantly supsended. Phoned up Ebay at the time and they said it was banned for good etc etc....So I stupidly did the same thing again a few days later with the same result.

Anyway, long story short Ebay now want me to convert my good standing account to a business account in the next 2 weeks otherwise I will lose seller privilages. The problem is that in order to switch to a business account I need to re verify my bank details again which were linked to the banned accounts that I tried to start last year. So Im pretty certain as soon as I try and re verify these details it will flag the system and I will get banned.

Im pretty sure it will get flagged and I will lose this good seller account. What are you guys thoughts on this situation, is there any hope? Thanks for any help.

which method of reverification of bank does it offer?

Hi, it just has a message asking to verify the bank details below. Then shows the sort code and account number with the confirm button below.

A few years back when ebay first moved over to managed payments i was routinely using the same bank account on new accounts when the old one died. I only haven't been able to do it now as my non bricks and mortar bank is no longer accepted on ebay(though still ok for those already attached) so i've had to tread carefully. I'm in the same situation as you though so i'm expecting the death of my accounts with not being able to reverify my online only banks. Will try to milk a few more sales between now and then before i mess the accounts up.

Can you give me some info on what else they ask you for and what else you've had to do / verify/ provide ?

Hi, so far it looks like you need re verify everything. Address/name/phone number plus account details....But I havent been asked to upload anything yet, just confirm the details on screen.

Im sure once I have confirmed these it will raise a flag on the system though so its just a 2 week countdown now.

Hi Im having trouble adding the screenshot. Basically it gives 2 options. First is to verify with Trustly via online bank login. The second is via deposits.

Im guessing either option is just gonna get me banned once they run my bank details :rip:

How would they know from deposits? They've been depositing the money from sales into your account. Business bank account aren't subject to the same name check laws as private accounts (an ebay is a business, expecting to pay a business)

you can go for deposits , bank verification does not lead to suspensions but may lead to rejection of bank account in the worst case

it is not check law,it is EBAY LAW,if they want to catch you cheating,they can verify the deposit returned information against their bad boy file.
Unless she can change the bank account like switching to a new one,she has 2 weeks to do so

Why do you comment when you have no idea? uk direct debits (which is how they would retrieve the deposits) don't name check and wouldn't confirm the name on the bank account. the only data transmitted between the bank and the company claiming is digits between 0-9. No characters are transmitted. Its a very old system. Not only this, its perfectly normal for a business trading name and business bank account not to have identicial name. You are all over this forum commenting unhelp and misleading advice. Better to say nothing unless its factual and helpful.

OP don't go down the trustly route, its full access to your bank account, do the deposits. You may have to provide bank statements that match account name but thats easily done.

There are ways to check,they dont have to broadcast how they do it,your knowledge is limited

Hi, thanks so much for your replies and help, I really truely appreciate it (its causing me major anxiety at the moment because my ebay sales are quite high and really important to my finances).

I should mention my bank account is just a regular checking account, not a business bank account (I've just been told by ebay Ive got 2 weeks to switch to a business Ebay account instead of the personal Ebay account I have currently).

I think im right in saying you can still switch to a business Ebay account with a regular checking account. Also I'll be a sole trader not an LTD so on the confirmation page it shows I have to confirm my name and address as well as the bank details etc.

Do you think the deposits would still be ok with this? In my mind as soon as I confirm my details they will know about my banned accounts from last year and ban this one too.

You mean with the 2 deposits to verify bank info?

I just did a quick search on the forum and the general consensus is that the deposits method is not great as it reveals all the info, thus causing a ban...

Bad news now though. I just logged in to look at the page again and its only giving me the option to input my bank details manually (through trustly)....:rip:

Ah ok, it had the Trustly logo but I trust your advice. One other thing if thats ok, if the manual verification doesnt work will it give me the option to upload Docs of bank details? I read on the forum that if docs are uploaded then it will pass MP no problem?

Just curious why that would be, surely the docs you have to upload have all the details on as well? (Please excuse my ignorance Im just trying to understand everything)

it does not ask for docs anymore , you do trustly or manually , manually will work on current , will not work on saver , same with trustly

Well since your knowledge is FAR greater than mine, share with the forum HOW they transmit characters through a system that only uses digits to transmit due to the small bandwidth available when the system was developed? Or is this just another post to boost your post count?

It doesn't matter if your account is current or business, its ebays account that matters and the way in which they operate and its business. I would go down the deposits route as late as possible, This forum is an echo chamber of nonsense promoted by the like of agent who comment very little of substance on everything.

Like i say a few years ago when one of my ebays died i just attached the same bank account to a new account. It was fine. Thats not to say ebay hasn't improved its record keeping since on bank accounts so i can't say they won't link. But from deposits, they can't get your name. Read up on how direct debit system works and how out dated it is. This is why you can't use savings accounts because savings don't have the ability for direct debit (halifax used to have one that did but i'm not sure if they still do)I can catagorically say that they can't extract your name that way. My accounts now pay fees and refunds through direct debit and none of the names match.

Thanks mate, really appreciate you responding with your help. Only problem now is that the deposits option has disapeared from the verification screen for some reason, its just showing the manual option of typing in my bank details.

Do you think I should contact CS and tell them the system wont verify it and ask them to send me the micro deposits?

ps, someone said on this forum that ebay take the micro deposits back which is how they confirm your details etc. Not sure how they would do that though ,maybe he meant they charged the bank account afterwards to get their money back...

The micro deposit is taken back via direct debit, which you will have to agree to set up with ebay during the process. It will ask you to put the account details + name on (bank) account. Put the same name as your ebay account as the name isn't transmitted to the bank so ebay only see the name you give them and the bank are oblivious as they do not receive the name.

I can't see your screen to be sure but are you sure the manual method is not the microdeposits? I'm pretty sure it is.

Upload a screenshot of the page you are seeing to free image hosting and post the link here or pm it to me if you prefer, just the raw link don't try to make it an imbedded image as this forum blocks images so it would appear., blank out anything that identifying your account of course. Will be easier to advice if we can see the same thing.

Thanks so much again, I think you're right it is the debit option. I will upload both screenshots of what im seeing which include everything. The only problem that keeps nagging at me is the fact that all my details are real (not stealth) and Im pretty sure the accounts I stupidly tried to open (that got banned) were using most of the same details...

Im really struggling to see how 1) This account stayed open after they were banned and 2) How they arent going to link it somehow when I have to confirm my details :confused:

Thank you. The other major problem is when I have to upload my ID for managed payments....I used the same ones which will be linked to the accounts that I tried to start that got banned.

Surely they will link the name and DOB (I know some poeple say they dont link those two)....but then theres the passport number also which will be the same.

Im thinking of getting an emergency passport this week so the passport number changes (but obviously the name /DOB will be the same as on the banned accounts)...

Any help much appreciated :hs:
