| | | | | fealings | 10-02-2024 08:21 AM | Problems with VAT and HMRC on EU bussines to Ebay.co.uk We noticed the UK Value Added Tax (VAT) information on your account isn’t up to date. To continue selling on ebay.co.uk without interruption, please add a valid UK VAT number to your account within 30 days.
What you need to do
Register for UK VAT by visiting HMRC’s website.
Add or update your VAT number with eBay.
Tip: You can add VAT IDs for each country you pay VAT
Confirm your business name on eBay matches what's on your HMRC registration. To make any edits, go to the Business Details section of your account.
Make sure to include the correct item location in your listing.
Once you’ve updated your information, we’ll automatically add your UK VAT ID to your UK listings.
Enter your VAT ID
What you need to know
Because the UK’s tax authority, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), requires us to collect VAT information from sellers with UK customers, you need a valid UK VAT number on file. Learn more about your VAT obligations in the UK.
For questions about UK VAT requirements, we recommend speaking with a tax professional. For any other questions you might have, just get in touch. We’re here to help.

Thanks,
eBay Hey guys can you help me with this . Im from EU and all items located in EU but for but for foreigners who sell goods, registration under HMRC is mandatory. The account is stealth and the company we use is not active at the moment because it is an eBay business account. Can I try applying some documents for a sample for HMRC registration or will the procedure be delayed? Which do you think is an alternative? If I continue like this, they will probably block the account from ebay. I thought if I transfer all my ads to ebay.com and stop sales for the United Kingdom, clearing all the publications on ebay.co.uk. What do you think about it?
Thank you |
| murdered_by_ebay | 10-02-2024 11:04 AM | Re: Problems with VAT and HMRC on EU bussines to Ebay.co.uk you are leaving something out , ebay do not ask foreign sellers to register for VAT unless they state UK as item location , if the item location were stated as EU they would just charge 20% VAT automatically
I assume you did write UK as location? |

Why do you think they might do that?
OP has implied following in their opening post: They make taxable supplies in the UK.
Those supplies are made in the course or furtherance of a business.
They have has no establishment or fixed establishment in the UK.
That's literally the definition of a NETP from the first link I gave.
Indeed, I interpreted their opening post that they've currently got a VAT number registered against their account and it's not up to date and OP want to know how to address this. OP has stated they know it's a mandatory requirement regardless of what you say.
At least I said I didn't know how to deal with it, you couldn't even read their post correctly and then went off on some nonsense about how they must be wrong.
Yet another thread you're trying to derail, seems almost deliberate. |

ebay do not demand any tax docs or investigate them , the only thing they want is VAT number but it is usually possible to get reinstated if you tell them you will never list anything with UK location again |

Firstly the OP has clearly stated in the title and opening post they ship from the EU into the UK, secondly ebay have told them they need to provide an up to date VAT number - I can 100% guarantee they will not change their mind because someone on here said so. |

ebay do not do tax investigations , they do not request or investigate tax docs and do not determine tax status like amazon. they see uk item location you have to provide VAT , they see foreign location you do not unless you are registered in the UK and have exceeded a threshold | | All times are GMT -5.
