| Felics | 10-07-2024 05:23 AM | Is eBay really dead? Hello Hello,
So just as way of background I used to sell quite a lot on eBay. They were f**e goods but had very high customer satisfaction.
I would make c2k a month.
I had all the bells and whistles in regards to account - good feedback, high sales, no limits etc. etc. All verified with diff details.
I then stopped when managed payments came into force and the UK required submission of info to HMRC and tax authorities.
I am now considering starting again BUT am just wary if it is just way too long and too easy to be banned with my sort of profile.
Is it worth it? Even if I manage to get an account set up - I assume it will have to be my own bank account of which I think ebay will share details of to tax authorities?

Re: Is eBay really dead? Ebay is not truly dead - what category of sales were you into? Might have a lot more competition these days... |

Competition is limited. But how do I avoid getting nabbed by UK tax authorities. |

| OldTom | 10-08-2024 04:50 AM | Re: Is eBay really dead? If you're using legit details, then just go legit. As for the counterfeit goods issue then that's your problem.
With ebay soon to require a NI number and handing over our info to HMRC then, regardless of the message peddled by some, true stealth as we once knew it is dead.
The question you need to ask is what level of risk are you willing to accept that they don't identify you and add you to their 'persons of interest' list? None of us know how it will play out and how they will use the mountain of data soon to be thrown at them. It's not just ebay who will be supplying info.
Only you can decide if you have a viable venture. Sounds to me if declaring your profits is a deal breaker then you haven't. |

You should be ok.
THere's always those people that says ebay is dead, amazon is dead, this is dead and that is dead.
Reality is these people are negative nancys who just bitch and whine.
eBay is not dead. Easy? No.... |
| Felics | 10-08-2024 12:21 PM | Re: Is eBay really dead? Meh on balance I think youre right.
I honestly don't think the risk is worth it. Once I've sold my remaining stock that'll be it for me methinks. |

eBay is not dead. Easy? No.... | You're missing the point. Nobody is saying ebay is dead, don't think I've ever seen anyone say Amazon is dead!!
Their issue is, for their own reasons, that they are uncomfortable with the pending changes in the UK with regards to selling platforms and mandatory regulatory requirements.
They're not alone, there have been endless threads on this and similar forums about the future of stealth. Most have concluded it is pretty much dead. That's not bitching and whining or being 'negative nancys', that just hard facts.
Okay, we don't know how it will truly play out in the real world but surely you can see why folk are walking away from the stealth game. |

eBay is not dead. Easy? No.... | Agreed, Brexit affected my eBay business more than anything to be honest. Otherwise I'm still getting a steady stream of UK buyers. |
