The reasoning is, of course that ebay have done this to a) boost it's coffers b) to placate sellers who share your opinion that private sellers who sell mainly tat, or only lightly sell, are a massive threat to the livelihood of business sellers. Ebay deserve to make some profit of course, but not operating as a tax avoiding, ruthless corporate ripping the nation of billuons. A smaller flat fee would be fairer for all. Perhaps private sellers could sell say 100 items a month free of charge then pay fees on further sales?

You remind me a bit of the Daily Mail reader, blaming immigrants for coming over, or people languishing on benefits, or those on the bottom rung of society desperate to make ends meet selling a few item, but these are mainly the symptoms of corporation greed, globalisation, and corrupt governments.

Bu the way. I thought ebay had launched free selling on ebay due to the rise of other selling platforms such as etsy and vinted being free to sell on? I'm not sure how this new policy doesn't contradict their previous one?

No, Mercari buyers will get their goods more expensive.

They are adding the seller fees back but I think buyers will still be paying their buyer fee.

It's like tipping in USA. Over used and abused

Buyers paying fees will annoy ppl who already demand free superfast shipping, etc..

So mercari did this last year but as of next week they are going back to charging seller fees.

Considering eBay is a bigger platform, I wonder if this would actually work for them

YES Mercari is great again!

This will not go over well. This is double dipping adding to the fact that eBay promotion has made it insanely expensive for sellers. It sounds like some bullsh*t Ivy League think tank theory. "Let's squeeze buyers for protection while the sellers throw themselves at the buyers at low prices without seeing their backend cost. They'll think they're getting a deal worth the small fee, all the while both sides are getting gouged. This is simply put, GREED.

The greed factor is real - very annoying

That’s surprising! It seems eBay might be trying to cover the costs of enhanced buyer protection, but adding fees for buyers could discourage purchases. Personally, I think it’s a risky move when they’re aiming to attract more buyers. They should balance providing value without making buyers feel overcharged.

is this just UK only?
Does it cover certain categories only?
I am in USA,I have not received any notice?
This reminds me of auction, where both buyer and seller pay fees

Asking the right questions but not doing the right research and reading - expand your searching :)
