US Sellers - anyone else seen an uptick in USPS claims they're filing?

In the past 3 years (well, until recently), Ive only ever filed one claim with USPS. Summer 2022, for a lost article of clothing I sold. No big deal.

But this year, and especially in the days since November, Ive had mail getting lost like nothing other. 6 claims since 11/24, and I dont even ship that much. Maybe 30 packages a day. All paid out, since all were issues of the mail being lost in transit and the buyer never receiving them.

Whats going on here? Never had this issue with USPS before so this is kinda crazy to me. Anyone else seen a similar uptick in lost packages with USPS nowadays? Makes me think twice about what I'll be insuring going forward

are they trackable?
Some buyers will take advantage of no tracking and file INR.
You should contact 1-800-USPS and file a complaint, they will forward to your local post office

Correct statement about buyers taking advantage of no tracking and "claiming" porch pirating (it does happen for real though) - OP, are your clothes branded and popular?

That's a lot.

Are they never delivered or customer says never delivered?

If it's fedex, I hear you but USPS is good.

It's a ton and I dont get it. USPS has always been so good to me.

As for the first question, Im not sure. The item's tracking simply stops updating before getting the delivery scan. Could be a case of the buyer legitimately never getting it, or getting it and simply claiming INR to take advantage of the tracking. In any case, its money out my pocket since I have the refund these buyers on ebay.

Oh, I dont generally sell clothes. That was a one off but yes, I definitely sell in a high risk category (although the items themselves are unbranded).

Im not sure if these are legitimate INR's or as you said buyers taking advantage of the system, but it doesnt change the fact that I always have to file a claim with USPS since I have to refund these buyers through ebay. And I hate filing claims because USPS generally has treated me very well

You should contact USPS as it dos take issues like this seriously, either the local post office is not doing its job well,or something else is going on.
In fact you can go online and report the issue

30 packages a day...6 claims since 11/24 - could just be you've encountered some buyers taking advantage of the system, especially if your items are high risk and popular.

If he has tracking and he still files for INR,then tracking must have failed, either someone does not bother to scan his items or he has no tracking or valid tracking.

We have no idea what he is selling, does it require signature confirmation?

From reading the original post, it doesn't seem like much tracking/signature is being used...

Yes they're tracked. No signature confirmation. The tracking simply ceases updating at some point en route. Its truly bizarre

if they are going to different states and they all stopped tracking, something is going on within USPS.
if you call USPS,they can see more than you can if you give them a tracking number
