Id verification - help please
 

Hello All,
Im hoping someone can give me some advice from experience on an issue Im having with ID verification for ebay.

So I was permanently suspended a long time ago, long story, but then I was able to buy a very seasoned account from someone last year, and i got back on that way.

When I was suspended originally I gave ebay all my real info, so I had to use another identity to establish the managed payments for this new account I bought.

The person's identity I used was a friend of a friend who I did not know, but he needed some fast money and I was able to pay him a few bucks to just use his social and name as the business stakeholder on the account.

He gave me all his info, and he also gave me a black and white photocopy of his ID, which at the time I thought was fine.

So this account is now a Top Rated Seller account, and I'm doing $40,000 a month around in sales. Never had an issue with the account yet, etc.

Yesterday I got a pretty friendly normal email from eBay asking me to just upload my ID for the primary stakeholder on the account.

This is not an MC011 review, and they have given me until June to upload it, and are not holding my payments until I submit the ID. So this is a very friendly, normal request it seems, and I am not "in trouble".

I submitted the front and back photo copies of the guys ID yesterday though, and the system auto rejected it saying "Black and White images are not allowed, please submit color"..

Now I have tried to get back in touch with the guy who sold me the info, and he is gone..Number is disconnected, no where to be found. So this is a problem.

I'm a layman graphic artist, so what I have done right now is to take picture of my Georgia ID, and have simply removed my info from it using pho - and put his name, birthday, etc on that image. It looks pretty perfect right now, and someone looking at it would not know its been doctored.

I'm very worried about this though, because I do not know if eBay uses some kind of sophisticated technology to see if an ID is A) or B) If the license ID # actually matches the name appearing on the ID in the state of issue.

Maybe I'm being paranoid about this but I CANNOT lose this account, so I want to make sure I do this right.

Does anyone have an experience with submitting an ID to ebay recently (maybe within 6 months), that looked perfect, but that had false info on it that wasnt in state records?

Just wondering if anyone has done this and can share their experience, or let me know if they did submit creative ID and it got rejected?

Would you be able to ask your friend to ask his friend for this color id?

How long ago did you get suspended?
People here have been able to get back on even using their old info since Bay changed to adyen.

Thanks for the reply. No I cant get back in touch with the guy as stated..Thats my problem. I was suspended 2 years ago and theres no way I can use my ID and info again.

Just looking to see if anyone here has ever submitted a creative ID to ebay recently for verification, and what the results were..

I was suspened after they switched to Ayden..After I set up Managed payments with my old info unfortunately

Hm Hm Hm Hm..... 2 years ago isn't that long ago....

Can you go creative and turn that b&w photo into color perhaps?

I still would try getting back on with your old ID but as per stealth guide at least with different address, IP, user acc etc.

Then for this account, if I were you I'd dig up all resources and track down your old friend since it looks like you have some time.

this is likely an additional tier verification as they are obliged to do additional verification if a seller reaches a higher tier

was the ID asked for in an email or in red banner?

Hi I got an email from eBay, and there is a banner now that says:
You need to update your account details by June 1st 2025 on file in order to avoid any issues with payouts in the future"

So it seems pretty standard additional verification yes, and I know im not in "trouble" as I said. But I have to resolve this...

Ok, but its just asking me for the ID. I have to confirm the last four of social again, but the only document I have to upload is the ID.

My guess would be maybe they will do a soft check with the info - but the ID is my issue right now. The last 4 of the social is real and the persons info I used is a real person, so it will pass any soft check.

The ID is where I have the problem. Just thought that maybe someone on here has used a "creative" ID in the past, and maybe had some knowledge or experience with this they could share..

how long have you been selling on this account before they requested an ID from you

the matter is risky but you do not have many choices here , either you upload ID and get suspended in the worst case scenario or you change details to your real ones which may also get you suspended considering that it is a very large account

if all details are correct I would go for a driver's licence

This is a friend of a friend and you cannot find him anymore?
But you have his SSN and B/W photo.
I have an Ebay account in my mother name and Ebay wants front and back of her SS card.
BTW,asking for colored photo instead of BW is just a way to make sure it is authentic as no one takes BW photo anymore

Yeah its a crappy position to be in. The kicker of it now is I just told my uncle what happened, and he immediately shot me a pic of the back and front of his license, and gave me the last 4 of his social, and said "here use my name"..

I thought problem solved, but then I called ebay, and unless this guy was wrong that I spoke to, he told me that I couldnt change the primary on the account now that the verification was requested : ( He said I'd have to verify then add the new person, and then switch it around..

Thanks for all your help, it looks like nobody on here so far has had to use a creative ID, and cant give me any first hand insight..So I'm just going to have to submit what I have (which does look perfect), and hope that ebay isnt using some crazy technology to verify ID's now, not much else I can do I guess..

Yeah its a stupid situation. The guy I guess was just someone my friend knew from some group or something, and I guess he needed money at that time and gave me his stuff..Now yeah hes no where to be found, but he gave me everything 2 years ago so not a huge shock.

I have the last 4 of his SSN and a black and white photo copy of his lic (which was all I asked him for at the time)..And yeah agreed, the no black and white thing must be to cut down on fraud, etc..

The account I bought was opened 11 years ago and had a few years selling history before I bought it. I've been running it since June 2024 selling iphones, macbooks, tablets, and other electronics (90% pre owned stuff), and they just asked me for the ID now in March.

To be fair though the guy I bought the account from stopped using it in 2020, right before they switched to managed payments, which is why never had to give them anything before, he just verified with paypal..

I had to sign the account up for managed payments in June, and here I am now dealing with this. They left me alone for a while though, but I knew this was coming eventually..Just thought I was prepared for it, but apparently not : /

Wait... This is a friend of a friend whos identity you're using, and he didn't want to keep in touch with you, when you're doing $480,000/yr?

if you have his name,old address,you should be able to google and get a list of people with simiar names. with age,addresses and relatives.
There is a lot of theft,shoplifting by organised gang and individuals,Ebay is a natural place for them to dispose those merchandise,I wonder if they want our photos so they can show them to the police??
He could be selling on Ebay now??

He said his uncle is willing to let him use his ID and SSN?
Why not start a new seller ID with your uncle credential?
Everyone knows Ebay,the guy who sold you his ID could be selling on Ebay now?
Or he could have tried to open an account and Ebay said no,it has been taken??
