Extra charges by USPS for shipping

I have noticed lately USPS is charging me extra quite frequently, and I'm not sure what to do other than stop using them, but for packages under 10 ounces UPS/Fedex aren't a good substitute.

For example, I shipped something recently from upper east coast, to Mississippi. After the total EXTRA fee, $8.98 for a package that weighs 5 ounces. This is f*cking ridiculous. It eats at all my profits for the sale. I can't tell if these postal workers who decide to up-charge me are removing the commercial discount, or if they just decide to make up numbers, but its happening a lot.

Calling eBay will do nothing, and calling USPS will of course do nothing. Just curious if anyone has experienced this, and if any workarounds?

For record sake, on eBay I am using eBay shipping labels. I also have a Shipstation account which purchases USPS labels as well.

Re: Extra charges by USPS for shipping

I just checked my Shipstation account and there are far fewer adjustments, but its disgustingly common on eBay.

Side note:

I normally stand in line and have the postal agent scan each package. They weigh them, and so I know that part occurs. However I am not sure if there is a difference from them manually scanning it or I just drop them off with no scan and it goes to the facility center directly.

The package that was charged about $9 I put 4 ounces, maybe its real ounces were 6, but that doesn't imply $9 fees. It's absurd. That rate is at best priority mail. And yes I'm not broke, it's only $5 I know. But at scale I don't want USPS charging me extra for packages that have low margins to begin with.

I'll be doing a testing of this over the next weeks.

My point is, I am being charged extra which removes the commercial discount. Even if my package was going from New York to California it doesn't cost this much. I had a package going from New York to Mississippi and was charged $8.98 for something weighing at most 6 ounces, in a poly mailer (not a box).

For this specific item that turns a gross profit margin of 37.5%, to 15.1%.

Poly mail is 10x13 from uline.

I type in zipcode 10301 to 39530,weight 14 oz in a package,it comes to $9.10.
This is from USPS website
if it is 6 ounces,it would be $6.35

Commercial pricing = double the fee
