serious question about ebay

For those that do well with ebay. do you ever have fear or are you ever anxious that your account can get suspended for any silly reason that ebay chooses? or are you comfortable that every thing is working out for you and feel like you're on top of the world? I'm not asking this out of jealousy. i'm just curious

Ebay is not lucrative today as it used to be. Not even close! I think partially because they lost 50 million buyers recently (last 5 years) and because of poor economy since end of Covid lockdowns. However I operate dozens of accounts and lost many due to MC011s. Today getting MC011 as a lot easier than it used to be many years ago.

Ebays still lucrative, ebays more secure now than it was before in my opinion.

All depends on what you sell.

Yes.. perpetual anxiety pretty much every time I check all my email accounts that one of them may have gone down knowing a bunch of pointless time will be needed to replace the account again.

Yes, the dreaded 'Your Egay Seller Account Has Been Suspended' email - we have seen it many times and sometimes do have nightmares about it. I remember a guy who ran his entire business on egay years ago, had several employees, etc, then egay banned his account and he had to fire everyone and start over. Moral of the story - diversify, make a website, etc...

Here is one from the good old days (yes, I save all emails):

Subject: Your account has been suspended

Hello,
We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been permanently suspended because of activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk. We understand that this must be frustrating, but this decision was not made lightly and it’s important that we keep our marketplace safe for everyone. Learn more about how and why accounts can be suspended.

Here’s what you need to know

You will no longer be able to use your account to buy or sell items and any new accounts you set up may also be suspended.
Any listings have been removed and they can be viewed below.
We’ve credited all associated fees except for the final value fee for your listings.
Any outstanding selling fees are due and will be charged to your payment method on file. If you’ve already opened any dispute claims for these fees, they won’t be charged until the claims have been resolved.

If you have any questions or concerns, or think we’ve made a mistake, please get in touch. We’re here to help.

Thanks,
eBay

Ebay is safer for buyers and sellers than Etsy.

I sell on Ebay and Etsy as well.
You know what sells well on Ebay,Home Depot coupons,it costs me nothing ,I dont need it so I sell them on Ebay,it always sell within hours or next day.
I do not ask much,I see some sellers asking too much and they just sit there until expiration

Re: serious question about ebay

All stealth accounts, by nature, come with anxiety and risk.
You can get shut down right off the bat from not having a clean identity (or accidentally using ID details where the person already has a legit acct).
Putting together ID, bank account and operational security in the right way is time consuming and expensive - and has a pretty high fail rate unless you get lucky. It's always a numbers game, and while we hope the odds are forever in our favor well...it's ebay. Ain't easy or cheap :/
