USPS -hike in package shipping rate
 

he United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced a temporary hike in package shipping rates effective from October 5, 2025, through January 18, 2026, to align with the busiest time of the year. This increase will affect services such as Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select, applying to both in-person and business account shipments. Notably, there will be no changes to the rates for letters, postcards, and stamps.

I noticed this a few hours ago - shipped a package that normally would cost around $4, now is almost $6. Thanks flump! Those tariffs are really sticking it to those other evil countries aren't they? NOT! As usual, the citizens of the US pay for it all.

USPS does not have its own planes,so it used commercial airlines to carry its mail,USPS priority does not get priority treatment,so it is a waste of money to send USPS priority during busy shopping season

Agreed, I seldom use priority - the speed is not usually needed for the cost...

USPS Priority has long been known not to be the best bang for the buck - good share

It is increased every year seasonally, and also from other countries.

The more demand = green light for them to charge more, however service delivery doesn't change at all, of course.

I do not recall them increasing prices during busy season,like Xmas in the past?
This is the first?
But then everything costs more these days,for USPS to officially increase rates,it has to be approved,so this is one way to offset extra costs during Xmas,they do hire extra help and work overtime.

USPS is trying to make up for the ridiculous retiree benefits it provided years ago. Every year, they tax the American citizen to accumulate funds whenever possible through rate increases.

Numbers: 2024- net loss 9.5b, 2025- net loss 6.9b.

They are clearly using those boosted prices to shave their old debt

It is the Congress which makes them do so .
USPS is still the best deal in town,
