VeRO auction takedown (MC019) with no contact details?

Ok so I get the VeRO MC019 auction takedown email however this time there is no contact details or any information in the email who took the action down. All of the previous times there as a contact email and name showing who is the rights owner. This time it is blank. How can this be? Did eBay itself take the auction down? What should I make of this? Here is the email:

Dear XXXXXXXX(XXXXXX@gmail.com),

Thank you for your recent listing on eBay. Unfortunately, we removed the following item(s):

############ - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXX

The following information may help explain the reason for your listing(s) removal:

Copyright infringement is unlawful and against eBay's policies. Copyright is the protection provided by law to the authors of creative works, such as movies, music, software, photographs and books, both published and unpublished. Copyright owners possess the exclusive right to reproduce the copyrighted work, to distribute copies of the copyrighted work, and to perform or display the copyrighted work publicly.

eBay prohibits the listing of unauthorised copies of copyrighted works. Unauthorised copies include (but are not limited to) backup, pirated, duplicated, or bootlegged copies.

Guideline: If the product you are selling is a copy of another work that you aren't authorised to copy, don't list the item. Listing unauthorised copies of copyrighted material infringes upon the copyright of the rights owner.

This may include hard disks pre-loaded with unauthorised copies of media (including software, movies, or music). "Hard disk loading" occurs when software is loaded onto a computer, often as an incentive to increase the value, without an accompanying license agreement, manual, or documentation.

Photocopies of media (including books, textbook solution manuals and teacher's manuals) are not permitted on eBay.

You can sell products on recordable media (such as VHS tapes, audio tapes, CD-Rs, and DVD-Rs). However, your listing needs to state that you are the copyright owner or a licensed reseller, and you can prove it if requested to do so.

For more information visit the following Help page:

Recordable Media

You may need to take a tutorial. The next time you sell, you may be asked to take the tutorial, if it's required. Once you've completed the tutorial successfully, please review your account status for any other possible concerns. If there are no other issues, you should be able to sell again.

Your eBay fees for this item have been credited to your account. All bidders on this item have been notified of its cancellation.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Repeated violations of this or other eBay policies may result in the suspension of your account.

eBay understands that it can be frustrating to have a listing removed. If you have further questions, you can take the following steps:

- Take eBay's brief tutorial on Intellectual Property Policies and VeRO. To take the intellectual property tutorial, please visit: eBay Policy Tutorial - VeRO
- Read the ended listings FAQ at eBay: Redirect
- Ask eBay a question using the link on the above help page

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Regards,

eBay Trust & Safety

This may be a spoof or phishing email. Have you tried to forward it to trust and safety?

Is the auction actually closed?

nsh003 12-25-2009 09:56 PM

if there is no contact info, that usually means that another eBay user reported your item as a violation.

jtaverner76 12-25-2009 10:29 PM

Yup the email is real. The auction has been taken down and the message appears in my alert messages.

So another ebay user can take down my auction? How is this possible as they are not the rights owner! So in theory I can just report anybody and get their auction taken down?? Stupid egay...

i got this. Another seller that was selling the same stuff got pissed that some of his listings had been taken down. So i get this message, hey look out you cant be selling
this here on eBay, I had trouble when trying to sell this same product. And then he ends the message with "GOOD LUCK". And a day later i got the MC019. It was obviously the same asshole!

jbluntz 02-19-2010 12:20 AM

I did it before myself only because this idiot files a chargeback with paypal saying its a bootleg at the same time selling it on ebay and had a history of selling nothing but that item which said asian import in the description. I reported it to ebay and it was taken down the next day.
