Stealth & SSN: Aren't you worried about IRS issues or verification fails?

Hey guys,

I’ve been following the discussions here about running multiple stealth accounts, and one thing keeps bothering me.

For those of you using stealth identities with SSNs that aren't yours (or aren't "real" in the traditional sense):

The IRS Angle: Once an account hits the $600 threshold, eBay triggers a 1099-K. If that income is reported under a stealth SSN, aren't you worried about the tax liability landing on someone else’s desk? Or worse, the IRS flagging the activity as identity fraud, which could eventually lead back to your real IP/Location if they dig deep enough?

Verification Logic: eBay’s system for verifying SSN/Name matches has become much more sophisticated recently. How are you guys bypassing the inevitable "Information doesn't match" flag? If eBay finds out the SSN is ⊗⊗⊗⊗ or mismatched, isn't that an instant, unappealable permanent ban for the whole setup?

Would love to hear from the veterans here how you manage the tax side of things without "burning" the identity or getting into legal hot water.

Cheers!

Following. This has been on my mind for a while and makes 100% sense.
Same goes for NiN in the UK.

-200 transactions AND $20k sales.
You get a copy and IRS gets a copy.
The SSN owner could get into trouble with IRS for under reporting his income.
Do you know that person? Is he dead or alive?

Just asking in general, if I want start doing stealth with USA or UK I need to know if someone going to get hurt.

OP, the things you're talking about are illegal. I don't think anyone here is running any kind of long term business based on identity fraud.

Re: Stealth & SSN: Aren't you worried about IRS issues or verification fails?

the main issue here is that unlike in Europe where you just get reported without any action needed on your side , in the US you fill out electronic forms annually so you basically sign with someone else's name

I am not an expert for US law but I am pretty sure that there is a law somewhere saying that it is a crime to file tax returns under a false name regardless of whether the figures in the returns are correct or whether your actual tax returns are correct

Well if your SSN is generated it wont lead to anyone ... However you still need to report your personal income to IRS because they get income reports from the bank that's connected to your ebay account.

OP, strictly legal speaking, a person shouldn't be using SSNs that aren't theirs - other options like EIN and business registration still work.

One thing I've noticed is that the 1099 is always reported to the stakeholder's SSN, even if you use an EIN. I haven't found a way to simply direct it to the EIN through eBay's reporting system.

Coming from being an accountant, this is one beast you don't want to fool with. The IRS can easily trace you back via your bank account. Forget the VPN and the idea that it conceals you. A nice warrant will have your information turned over to the provider immediately. But as mentioned before, a bank trace will land right at your doorstep.

I highly advise NEVER trusting "stealth" ssn numbers or committing identity theft. This would be a federal-level crime and merit time in prison. Just don't do it.

There are some companies selling their merchandise new, returns, refurbished ,remnants on Ebay ,eg Clark shoes.Bestbuy, they do not sign up with SSN,corporations do not have SSN.
So talk to your accountant.

PS ! I just registered with LLC and they only asked me for the last 4 digits of my SSN/ITIN not full!

That's normal for a sole prop.

You'd better have those documents ready for proof of llc with your state. When they verify accounts, there is no way around it. I was forced to change from llc to ein/sole prop and verified with IRS EIN letter.

LLC has nothing to do with SSN/ITIN. You generate EIN using your SSN/ITIN. So Ebay will trust my full EIN that I provided during registration because they can easily verify that it belongs to my LLC (name/address).

This path is inherently high-risk and uncontrollable, requiring independent data collection, independent payment processing, and independent operation.

What does Ebay send you instead of 1099K?
