Disgusting policy. Just again, reaffirms that they don't give a single sh*t about their sellers.

They're just rolling with the punches. Over here in the US, the returns standards they've put into place are basically what's required to keep their stock price from dipping.

I got excited for a minute but pretty much assumed it was a scam all along..

Ha more than likely.. I still wouldn't go for labels privately distributed, seems like a recipe of disaster

That makes sense, anything at the expense of their hardworking and valued sellers....

Yes, this type of concept has no purpose except to be a scam

As you can see by the traffic on forums like this, they've already just about killed off small sellers in the US trying to do this full time. Apps like Mercari, Depop, and Poshmark are big in the US because they aren't meant to accomodate full time sellers.. they try to attract hobby sellers.

This postage increase we have coming next month will chisel down the ones remaining, even more. They're doing away with postage for packages under a pound. So it will be going from costing about $6 to ship a small package coast to coast, to costing over $10. It's like.. either get big enough to negotiate custom rates with UPS/Fedex, or get out of the game.

In all the years I've been selling there's never been such a huge price hike in one go.

My thoughts, could easily steal the consignment or something along those lines I fear. I will always be the one to organise my shipments. I don't like agents too much either, despite using them in the past..

Sad times we live in..

Similar situation here with small letter shipments, prices have gone up slightly by Royal Mail (our main domestic courier service) and they make it near impossible for you to ship smaller objects in letters anymore (e.g. iPhone accessories, trading cards etc), almost forcing you to spend x3-4 the price of a letter, making it unfeasible to sell certain things anymore. Well they also don't favour sellers selling with untracked shipments, many friends of mine that once had profitable businesses have had to shut them down due to all this madness, it's a shame.

And if it wasn't for my international shipping tactic, I would have to stop selling internationally entirely as there is no chance I would spend over £200 to ship something relatively small / not too expensive via FedEx account. Makes no sense

I dont see how anyone can make selling on Ebay a full time job and pay one's living expenses?
Unless that person lives rent free, healthy and have no debt .
Making a few hundred dollars to pay for Netflix, cell phone, gas for his car and eating out,bar .

With the current market saturation (many many sellers selling the same stuff), higher seller fees, posting and packing costs, higher rates of scams and returns, it's definitely much harder, but doable.

Can probably still make £20-40k reselling a year with good/cheap China suppliers from 1 account which could be good for some but definitely not great full time money at least for me it barely covers my costs of life here in London, that's why I have multiple accounts that I manage full time to make things viable.

That being said, your working from the comfort of your own home without someone telling you what to do so it's still got its perks, just have to find the right things to sell..

First few years on eBay it was like a Wild West boom town. Postage was dirt cheap and regulations were nonexistent. Back then I was buying no-no's and clarisonic brushes for $20 each and selling them for $80. I could sell 60 in a week and never had any big issues with returns. I was paying for everything with Western Union but I would have to bounce all over town because cashiers would get sketched out and start refusing my transfers after a couple orders. Anyone else here remember army on dhgate?

Seems that way, when I go on parcel compare websites FedEx, UPS, DHL, ParcelForce, USPS all price around the same now, it's a god damn monopoly.

But I wouldn't trust DHL or UPS as they open parcels now, so if I'm sending something expensive I'll always stick to FedEx as it's worth the price. But yeah, pointless shipping cheaper items internationally which is a big loss of consumer base, it sucks really but it's just not feasible with these rates

I am in US,i have found out DHL agents are willing to cut their prices to win your business, but it still too expensive.
Fed Exp ground can be cheaper than USPS for large /bulky items.
USPS media/library rate is cheap, but better not have commercials in your magazines or books.

It's evolved but that kind of thing is still very much active. JBL Speakers are the big thing right now. I had a lot of luck flipping Charge 2's and 3's a few years ago. I've been thinking about whether or not to pull the trigger on an order of JBL Flip's. :ban?:

Affirmative but I still wouldn't touch DHL with a barge pole as they introduced a policy a few years ago granting them access to open parcels as they wish. Happened to one of my high valued jewellery items in transit to Germany, a nightmare and I got lucky the shipment wasn't stolen.

I will always recommend FedEx as they are the fastest/efficient, never had any issues and they can deliver parcels from the west to places such as Dubai and Singapore in less than 3 days, so worth the price imo (for high valued goods).

These days I just ship regular domestic mail (e.g. Royal Mail) for regular sales, they suck but it's the best value overall.
