Lost access to 10+ year old stealth account no SMS access
 

My PC and laptop both died at the same time and buried all those sweet sweet cookies in the mire :(

Now ebay doesn't recognise me. wants me to verify via text to an old number.

Obviously my fault for not keeping phone no up to date.

I spoke to ebay on phone and they enabled email verification. I can do this and update my password but then when i login again it goes back to asking for a text to old number again. a doom loop.

1. now my account is inaccessible how can i close my listings? they're still selling
2. anything else worth trying?

You spoke to eb on the phone already - they would have keep a copy of that convo, so that's your best bet.

There used to be a way that you could try logging in via another country platform e.g. eb.com or eb.ca...I am not certain if that works anymore - worth a try

you can ask them to exchange the phone number but it will take additional verification

yeah i did ask them to do that on the phone. i said can you change it, i can tell you all my secret questions etc and he said no

there is a button when you try to log in which suggests to change the phone number if you lost access , it should direct to the section of the site which allows to change the phone number upon verification

if you are telling the truth regarding dead computers and they are not gone then you have the alternate option of trying to extract the data from the hard disks although it would take someone who knows how to recover data and this will cost

sadly no just redirects me to the contact us page :(

Anyone know how i can

1. close my listings so they stop selling
2. download my sales csv so i can do my accounts?

at least until recently they were allowing to change phone number upon additional verification

I did not hear anything about a new policy when lost phone meant lost account by default

your only remaining options are to continue requesting calls from ebay as you likely hit a bad rep , they often give false info

if you don't regain access the only realistic way to get end listings etc. is if your account is connected to a third party service through which it can be done. otherwise you just abandon it if you don't regain access or if it is important for you to end the listings you buy them up yourself and do not pay

If i click send code --> didn't get code --> my number changed -->request number change with verification it takes me to contact ebay page. So it shows it should be possible.

But i've spoke to 3 reps who all said they couldn't do it for me.

Maybe there are other flags on the account that make the reps hesitant to help

I've given up on the account now unfortunately :(

try same during a foreign session in order to get reps from usa , usa session is best from about 9pm uk time into the night

my last call was 9pm UK time. the woman was more apathetic than the others but didn't do anything. Unless i have to be calling a different number for US reps as well?

try further into the night and avoid indians/philippinos as they only read from script

OK i'll try again. i didn't know/don't believe you can get a real american-born human on the phone i've only ever had philippinos with babies crying in the background

So if I were you I'd keep trying to call them or even a supervisor and hopefully you get lucky to get a rep that will actually help you.

For me USA and some times INdian reps tend to be more understanding of the situation and the language. It takes a few tries at times.

after 10pm i'm getting an auto message saying its not our normal business hours and no one is here to talk. tried twice

that if you do on uk ebay but on dot com they work until early morning uk time

You need to pass selfie verification in order to change a phone number on ebay

Just take out your hard drive and connect it to a new computer using an external caddy that you can buy off Amazon. You'll be able to access your files.

SaiJin told you what you need to do spot on.
Just keep calling them. Demand they connect you to a supervisor. Tell them the same thing, that your laptop died and you no longer have access to your phone number on file since you had forgot to update it earlier.

They will ask questions
- names, address, dob, old phone nubmers on file, bank account on file. Prepare all that info.

What you want them to do is update your phone number over the phone or at the very least let you access the account without SMS.

One of my clients had this happen and this is how we resolved it.
