closing a restricted ebay account

Hi all, whats the easiest way to close a selling restricted account? the chat agents send generic messages

"As you are aware, a review was conducted on your account by the specialist department in the month of January 2026. Following a thorough assessment, the eBay specialists have determined that the account will be permanently restricted to ensure adherence to eBay selling policies.

We are committed to continuously improving the buyer and seller experience. To support this objective, we may occasionally take measures such as restricting selling privileges, hiding, demoting, or removing listings from our platform, or suspending accounts temporarily until relevant information can be verified."

Also whats the best way to open a new account, can you use the same name but a different address with it not getting flagged? Also if i change the registered name, address and ni, is this likely to make any difference?

You can't really "close" a selling restricted account - eb will always keep the info...

To open a new account, you should use all fresh info - same name with different address but same birth date...I will wait for other UK members to comment.

Your account has to stay open to deal with all the disputes/chargebacks/refunds it's going to be hit with. It wouldn't make any sense for them to let you close your account after it's been restricted.

Re: closing a restricted ebay account

OP, why were you suspended? What category of items sold?

Impossible to close the account or change bank account for payouts. But you can remove the direct debit from your banks end, I recommend doing so. I'd also change all the other changeable details (e.g. primary address etc.) but it probably doesn't matter as they have everything saved on file.

That's why this forum exists and how I found it haha

you can consider your account closed as soon as it gets suspended , if it got restricted but not suspended you just change personal details to Luke Skywalker and write your current address on Tatooine

but be careful , even if the account gets suspended the empire may still be able to retrieve your data and send troopers to take you down as we don't who has access to the ebay databases

it was restricted over 6 months ago, and there were no chargebacks, i think they were not happy with the invoices provided. they held my money for over 6 months which i just had released.

Well, it's good that you're past the chargeback window. Still though they aren't going to let you close an account that got in trouble.

Did you upload an Amazon invoice?

Correct - no closing and flushing allowed.

I'm still interested to know the type of docs submitted that weren't approved, whether there was any discrepancies/errors or the type of docs used..

Maybe we could make a submissions database with docs that were approved and not to understand better why they reject??

Depends on what you are selling, certain categories or brands, they actually check with the vendor on your invoice !

Good that you got funds released.

tbh many of the receipts were handwritten on a printed invoice book from a legitimate business but they clearly were not happy with those. a bunch of photoshopped bank receipts that were done by someone who specalises in that, but i think the issue was the invoices.

Yeah, despite that probably being legitimate/official, can see that being a red flag for them - eBay really doesn't work with logic, it's very hit or miss.

They used to reject email confirmations of purchases too for companies that don't provide sales invoices, but until recently they have started accepting them, so long as you attach a bank statement to link the email order confirmation value to the transaction displayed on your statement.

I think, assuming there weren't any discrepancies on the bank statement, I'm certain it was the handwritten receipt/invoices.

Sorry to hear that.

Even if you did get proof of purchase something like a handwritten receipt, I would still make AI or pay a professional to recreate it into something more official, or contact the merchant to provide you with something more official then edit it, better chances that way.

I have never closed an account, always abandon and move on, never give them more info to hang me with...
