Are eBay stealth accounts still a thing?
 

I've been out of the game now for couple years. Couple years ago you used to be able make stealth accounts and sell up to a certain limit before you were required to to provide ssn or EIN. You would just make a new account and repeat. Is this still a thing? Where you can make new accounts without ssn and sell up to a certain limit?

Is it on signup or at $600 in sales? Because I just made a seller account , listed and item and it didn't ask for ssn or tax ID. That is why I was asking if stealth is still a thing or not

I haven't started a new account recently.. Maybe one of the account sellers will have more up to date info. My understanding is that since eBay rolled out managed payments and started handling all of the money themselves, running a seller account with fictitious details and no tax ID is a thing of the past.

wait til you get a sale and the Ebay will withhold the sales proceeds and ask you for ID

Even in the olden times they would never let you accidentally cross the threshold without giving a tax ID.

Thanks! What I’m curious about is, will you abandon this account or provide an ID? As this could bring potential trouble.

They will do another thorough check once you hit around 500 - 800 in sales, but this is for UK, normally they ask for ID on my accounts as they are stealth. I believe for USA there is threshold and then they will ask for Tax info etc once this is reached.
