Select your Country Flag

I just added a feature that can show country flags.

This will help when we're discussing our specific region eBay or Paypal.

Everyone should use this feature. You can select your country by editing your profile. Use the following link:

I can't resist giving this post a kick.

Users should be showing the country flag for the location of their body.

I see a lot of new members who are in foreign locations who are flying the U.S. flag because they use ebay.com - which is misleading to those of us who MIGHT answer their questions.

If I answer a question based on U.S. conditions but the IP of the questioner does not match the flag they show, my answers are going to be at least 50% useless. The info I provide will not apply properly.

A few people have flamed me for bad answers - when they are at fault for telling me they are in the U.S. even when I can tell from their typing style that they are probably foreign and lying to me. I have clearly asked some of them if they are actually someplace else. They've lied and said they are in the U.S. Then get angry at me. THEN they finally confess that they are someplace else.

The user location changes so many factors. If an IP is from China or anyplace else, ebay knows this. I can't tell people the good ways to solve problems if they provide me bad info to begin with.

Agree what Vic said. It is becoming more headache when people are not clear about how and from where they access eBay Paypal. IP location is the most important factor in lot of cases.

I would suggest to show something like Unknown, Unclear, grayed out, or just not show the edited country flag if a person's login IP does not belong or fall into the area/region of that country.

We are not eBay, Paypal, FBI or any type monster. We are just normal people like to help other people that are unfairly treated. If people are expecting some real good & more accurate answers, they would have show some honesty.

If I misunderstood what the purpose or the feature of new country flag, just correct me.

Vicvelcro 08-14-2009 07:12 AM

I think the flag should be mandatory. I think it should be required that the flag be accurate for the physical location of the person.

If they employ special means to access ebay sites, they can say so when they begin to ask their question(s). But that will be another issue, I think.

Physical location is very important. Has to do with legal issues, imminent domain, financial laws, and more. The site you use or the banks being played are not as important as LOCATION, much of the time.

Flag has been mandatory for users since the start of the year. Am well aware not every user has flag. The 'flag' is part of the method in which a user can learn from using the forum.
Users are to be encouraged to supply the correct information in return for helpful answers. Must add spoon-feeding is not done.
This topic pertains to the FLAG...

Will be out there this time next year, and won't be able to show my flag :(

[edit because GB post-sniped me]

re: #6

[/edit]

Suggestion for you:

Make an 80x80 pixel image of it, and make it your avatar, during the relevant time-frame . Just an idea.

getaroundebay 08-14-2009 08:13 AM

Great idea, I have the image, how can I put it on, where edit your avatar I can't find where to use my own!

GreenBean 08-14-2009 08:23 AM

Go to UserCP on left of your screen. 3rd down Edit Picute, hit enter and bingo..... just make sure that your UK flag stays....

getaroundebay 08-14-2009 08:24 AM

Yeah, my UK flag will stay! Thanks

Vicvelcro 08-14-2009 08:36 AM

Vicvelcro 08-14-2009 09:24 AM

On the left menu, edit Avatar.

getaroundebay 08-14-2009 04:34 PM

But then I can only select the default ones provided by the site.

Vicvelcro 08-14-2009 05:01 PM

Scroll down a bit and it allows you to post a link to an avatar hosted offsite. If you don't have a host, attach the file to me in email and I'll host it, then send you the link you need.

getaroundebay 08-14-2009 05:06 PM

Im not seeing this!

Vicvelcro 08-14-2009 05:21 PM
