Aimphone No More??

I went to the link previously supplied on here and the free phone number deal was gone.

Is there a back door way into old aimphoneline to just receive calls?

koalawash 11-19-2007 11:58 AM

Yes, it's gone for good but it seems that customers who were already signed up still get to keep the service. I used it myself earlier today.

There's also this. I haven't tried it yet but I'm planning to soon.

Disposable, Temporary Phone Numbers | Private, Anonymous Telephone Services

That site charges money.

ebayisanecessaryevil 11-20-2007 11:06 AM

and requires an extension. no good.

prosniper 11-20-2007 03:30 PM

Yeah that is not the same / what I was hoping for...

koalawash 11-20-2007 04:25 PM

I know it's not the same, but I'm looking at it because the fee doesn't seem like that much anyway. Plus you can just keep changing your number as often as you want, which I very well may have to do with the multiple accounts I plan on churning out.

Why is it such a bad thing that you need an extension? All you need is a real phone line of your own to forward calls to.

Yeah, they charge money, but it's CHEAP. And you don't HAVE to use Extensions, it's an option, and numbers with extensions are FREE.

If you use it a lot, you can get 5 phone numbers and 1000 minutes (US/Canada) a month for $24.99/month, and additional #'s are $1.49/month + $0.04/minute.

If you only need one phone number for your ebay stuff, $7.99/month gets you 1 phone number (no extensions) anywhere in the US and 200 minutes, and after that it's $0.08/minute. When you sign up, they give you a FREE number with a 5 digit extension, but you don't have to use it.

I use it for all my expensive ebay things, and it works great. Plus I can tell it to take a message when I'm asleep (I think it's called Do Not Disturb).

ooglek,

Since you've used this Tossable Digits thing already, do you know if you are limited to one phone number at a time with them?

koalawash 11-27-2007 05:56 PM

Wait never mind.. apparently you can.

ebayhateluv 11-27-2007 08:49 PM

HI- FYI- I just setup 13 tossable digits numbers this weekend, you can choose the area you want, i.e. Chicago, California, etc. YOU can have all these under your one acct, they are $3.99 each per month, then you can xfer the calls to your cell phone...or any landline..

They don't have any limits. I've got 4 different phone numbers (without extensions, TD calls them Real Numbers) forwarding to 3 different phones, plus 10 extension numbers that I use for places I might want a call from, but could disconnect if they get annoying. Plus I avoid automated calls, since most systems don't support dialing an extension.

It really is cheap, and the numbers work as soon as you buy them.

Does ebay's computer know how to dial an extension when they call?

I've tried 3 credit cards with them and they keep saying declined. Not gift cards, real cards. Ever have this problem?

I'm not sure, but when you're filling out your information in eBay the phone number field gives you a space to put an extension so I guess they do.

However, I tried using a number with an extension for Paypal and they wouldn't take it. It's possible I might have just entered it in a different format then they wanted though? They were kind of ambiguous about possibly using extensions on Paypal.

I did. Turns out because a lot of fraudulent users try to use their service for nefarious reasons, their CC auth system is full of anti-fraud techniques that are hidden behind a big "your card is declined" message to keep their techniques secret. I just emailed them and they told me what was wrong, I fixed my address, and all was well. Email them (support at tossabledigits.com) and ask why.
