BEWARE Ebay method to track suspended users

Today I received an email in a box that I had used with my original suspended ebay account from Bank of America telling me that there had been fraudulent activity on my account. I then realized that I had NEVER given this card my email address, I pay my bills by mail, so I looked at the source of the email, and guess who it was? Yes, EBAY! They must have used my credit check info from paypal, and utilized a credit card of mine to send a email to track me. This is the only explanation that I can think of.
Is this legal? Has anyone else seen this?
Lesson learned: BURY ALL OLD EMAIL ACCOUNTS ASSOCIATED WITH EBAY! AND NEVER OPEN EMAILS FROM ANYONE YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH IS DIFFICULT THOUGH WHEN YOU ARE SELLING ONLINE.

It sounds like a phishing scam.

hopefully, but the return path was ebay.com, but I am a tech dummy so I hope in this case you are right.

Can you past the headers (edit out your email address of course) here for us to analyze?

is this phising? thanks guys

Definitely phishing. outer-net.com is a small ISP, eBay wouldn't be using that to send emails.
