| forummember | 06-05-2010 05:50 AM | Sales plummeting Has anyone else in the last week notices their sales dropping. I'm selling pretty sort after items and was selling anything between 2-3 a day. I haven't sold one in a week and no-one else on eBay has any on. There are watchers too, a lot of them.
Also a low value item I sell which would usually sell 5 a day hasn't sold and my price is better than my competitors.
Anyone had this problem? |
| Hercules | 06-05-2010 09:33 AM | Over the holiday was real good for me. |
| forummember | 06-06-2010 09:35 AM | Good to hear someones sales are staying strong. Things picked up a bit today, hopefully everything will be back to normal next week. |
| aspkin | 06-06-2010 09:44 AM | Seasons are changing.. and depending on what you sell it could shift to weak sales for the next few months.
The summer is usually a slow period for online sales.. more people are out and about instead of being trapped indoors buying stuff online. |
| forummember | 06-06-2010 09:55 AM | Indeed they are. I've got a lot of different items for sale. Today though has been a major improvement. Probably because it's a Sunday. |
| topseller | 06-06-2010 11:52 AM | If you are not a chinese powerseller or a seller that does large volumes, your listings are probably not even showing up. Do an exact search for your ad title and see if it shows. Then have someone from a different state try. Ebay is starting to geo-group search results. |
| metroline | 06-07-2010 08:40 AM | Yes, sales went down sharply last week. Just wonder if there is any western holidays. |
| forummember | 06-07-2010 09:22 AM | Yes, there was a holiday week in the U.K. last week. |
| bmwsouthside | 06-10-2010 11:01 AM | Topseller good point. I have typed in my items and cannot find them. I am getting much lower views on my items it is really pathetic that our items are not getting seen by the buyers. This is the main problem if they dont see our items we have no buyers. Most of us have experience selling these items but things are changing. You have to move with the times. read the book "who moved my cheese". some of us have had to adjust or change what we sell. people are buying what they "need" not so much of what they "want" unless in smaller splurges $20-$30 range or special niche items like that popular fitness dvd that you can only sell 1 per month.
I am getting way too many items unsold. never been like this before. I drop prices and try to be competitive but buyers know they have a buyers market right now. they want it for free. its sad but they do. |
| aking | 06-10-2010 11:23 AM | Yea, I noticed that as well. Last month I was selling like 15-20 items a week at $10-15 a pop. Everything sold, no auctions went unsold. Now I can barely sell any at all and I dropped the price over 50%! And it doesn't help that our friends in China are selling stuff for pennies! How they make any money when their shipping costs are higher that their prices is beyond me! Not sure whats going on. Waiting money listing items and no one is buying anything. I was going to say maybe its the weather but the weather was nice last month too and I was getting plenty of sales. Dont know, we'll see what happens this weekend. |
| jamblix | 06-10-2010 01:39 PM | My sales are SKYROCKETING!
If your sales are declining do something about it! There is always something you can do. Even in recessions, smart people learn how to make more money. You don't have to sacrifice price either.
I remember one time one particular item of mine wasn't selling at all because these dudes from China were selling the same exact thing for nearly 50% less. What I did was create a new title, subtitle that stated shipping from the USA, bolded it and voila. In the next few days every single one of them got sold. |
| aspkin | 06-10-2010 02:29 PM | Not a bad angle to pitch Jamblix.. good thinking. |
| topseller | 06-10-2010 03:59 PM | Good idea Jamblix, but if your listings are not even showing up you have no chance of making a sale. I guess you could copy the ad title of the Chinese powersellers, and change a word or 2. If you can offer something unique or offer fast free shipping, something they can't, you can take sales away from them. Even at a slightly higher price. |

You have a good point. I need to change up my listings a bit. I sold a few yesterday. I have to admit, I haven't been on ebay much myself, spend most of my time outdoors playing with the kids, doing yard work, fishing, etc. so I can understand the sales dropping. I think we all have been cured of Cabin Fever. |
| metroline | 06-12-2010 11:53 PM | Is there anything to do with the word soccer cup in South Africa? |

People want to go out in summer and spend there money accordingly. There are not stuck in with nothing better to do than trawl eBay. I would say the best thing to do is to find a small item which makes a low profit but you can move a lot that is needed by people all year around. |
| forummember | 06-13-2010 11:06 AM | Also it depends on what item your selling, a lot of people that sell the same items as me have reduced the price of theres because nothing is selling. |
| bmwsouthside | 06-14-2010 08:30 AM | good points fellas,
making changes to items do help. titles, photos, it all makes a difference (more work though)
We can also change what we sell. we naturally want to go the easy route and sell what we have been selling but times like these we have to move with the cheese.
I have to get rid of this inventory I already have. some things I cannot sell on ebay being some of it is **** that got mixed in when I bought real merchandise from a large supplier.
My problem is finding the right place to sell these other certain items.any ideas help let me know. |
