Tracking for every item a must?
 

I live in Australia and ship out my products locally and worldwide. I don't use tracking info and was wondering if its mandatory to get tracking info so i can provide it to paypal if they ask? Do all standard packages come with tracking or do i have to ask for it?

not sure about au, in theuk you can ask for "proof of postage" but this means nothing to paypal, they like an actual tracking number that one of their "robotic idiot employee's" can punch into the internet and see if the item has been delivered or not.

I started to get all of my postage actually through paypal then tracking numbers etc were always there agin though not sure if this is an option in au.

SOrry not been much help there have I? From a "safe" point of view so far as idiot buyers saying they have not received stuff then send it tracked you can always prove your case to paypal then, if not you will have buyers being refunded which will obviously lead to your paypal account being noticed.

its a balance between the extra cost of postage and the risk of a buyer not receiving item. Paypal only looks at tracking, so no tracking = refund.

some sellers send goods over a certain amount eg $50 with tracking, some its $30, its up to you. You will get the odd dishonest buyer or mess up by the postal service, but it is rare. Never send anything substantial without tracking.

Catch 22 - save on costs since tracking is not always there with standard mail but if buyer complains (even out of cheapness), you're not covered.

The positive feedback is one way to confirm receipt. When in doubt, track it. Some people I think have said CCing paypal on the e-mail saying you have sent it is a good addition but I don't find that at all useful.

always get tracking!! buyers can ripe you off!

in australia tracking is registered post.
With standard delivery, if the item is lost you can make a claim with australia post and get $50 plus your postage cost back from them. So if someone files a paypal claim against you you can at least get your money back from the post office.
If item is much more than $50 get it registered and you then have tracking info

Don't know how much they charge for tracking in AU but here in the US if you purchase the postage thru Paypal the cost of delivery confirmation is only .19 and when you ship Priority Mail it is free. Call me crazy but I would rather just spend the .19 then have to worry about somebody filing a claim for item not received and having to hassle with it. My time is worth more than .19

In australia it is about an extra $2.80 so for smaller items it sometimes isnt worth it

I think $2.80 is not much to pay for the things im shipping. I usually only sell things over $100 value
