Selling guitars, will I get suspended?

I was thinking about selling some guitars. These are very nice items and customers love it. I was wondering, would I get owned by ebay for selling them?

Each guitar I make about 1k from it. Customers are happy and leaves good feedback and I have a great supplier. I just don't want it to blow up in my face if ebay decides to shut me down.

Also... What would happen if a competitor reports me? Is there anyway to avoid becoming a threat to someone?

Thx.

You would need to gain good rep on eBay to avoid problems with account. Same with Paypal - the spike would be intense and cause limitations.

That being said, if your buyers are happy then there should be no problem. On the other hand, competitors are always on the lookout since you are eating into their clientele. Their response is to be seen.

So it's not good to sale on a new account? I made it about 2 weeks ago. I have another question, would I be able to withdraw the money out of my paypal without it being limited? Or do I have to withdraw $500/mo.. If it's $500/mo it will take forever lol

Gibson?

I'm not sure how tough or easy their VERO people are. But if someone feels you are threatening what they perceive to be THEIR sales, certainly a competitor can report you. It's part of the game.

If these are ⊗⊗⊗⊗, then the biggest risk I see is a buyer complaint. But at the prices they go for, PayPal will probably want some sort of verification.

Agree with jeffweico - and yes, withdrawing a huge amount will spark a limitation. Be ready with your paperwork.

How'd you know? lol

Dang I hope I don't get limited or something. Should I just list once a week to avoid VERO? Also because it is a 2 week old accounts should I only continue to list once a week?

How long would it take paypal to want some verification? Because of this should I list the guitars as half price?

How do I get paper work? it's a stealth account. Also if I withdraw small amounts would it not spark limitation?

Also does the same thing apply to sales?

rsot 07-27-2010 04:33 PM

You need to read around the forum - same rules apply to VeRo items whether large or small.

And if you're implying that $500/week withdrawal is slow, it seems like you intend to offload them very quickly for a killing - even worse for your accounts.

It is not necessarily the amounts that spark limitation - it is just the action and the high-priced goods involved. Getting the paperwork = creativity on your part...

Even if you list half-price, that would be even worse - jeffweico is right though, the VeRo-killing activity of Gibson is unknown - well to me at least.

You're going to have to experiment with this one AFTER you get familiar with VeRo antics. I highly doubt someone is going to tell you how to sell the guitars - if something works for people, why would they want to break their own business model to have you making profit?

All the best to you though - though, to be quite honest, I'd hate to be a buyer paying out over 1k on an item that is not what it is purported to be...just my 2 cents.

jeffweico 07-27-2010 04:43 PM

I agree with RSOT. And listing numerous name brand items, even one at a time, that sell for upwards of $1k on a new account will CERTAINLY attract attention.

If they are REAL, then go for it and give eBay/PayPal whatever verification documents they need. If they are ⊗⊗⊗⊗, I'd think twice.

Ok thanks! I will switch to something else till my accounts age a little.

rsot 07-27-2010 04:54 PM

Yes - or go REAL slow - but always keep in mind, limitation does not have to do with just age of accounts.

Lots of factors - item being sold, spike in volume, spike in price, IP, time of sale, buyer model...just expect the limitation no matter what and be ready.

Paperwork can always be done - just easier if your sales are light...

I'm not too sure how VERO works with guitars on Ebay, but I do have a friend that sells guitars on Ebay. They have sold several and there is good money to be made, pending on what you have. Thee were never any issues or problems from the beginning of the transaction to the end either! You may have to produce a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) though. It may take some reading on Ebays VERO policy.

Good Luck!

Yes, guitars are good on ebay. The only musical instruments I've possibly heard some problems on are very high end keyboards.
