About to get my first unpaid item strike - questions...
 

uh oh.. ebay unpaid item

I am about to get my first unpaid item strike ever. I was just wondering if my account will be limited or suspended as a result of this?

So far, the seller has not contacted me at all even though I have sent a couple of messages to them. I worry because I am a seller also and have several items listed and do not want this UPI strike to interfere with my sales :(

It seems from reading around here that nothing will happen to my account after the first UPI strike, but I just want to be sure :>

nothing will happen for just one strike, offer to cancel transaction if you really do not want item, that way seller gets their fees back, and dont make a habit of it, Im a seller and it bugs the hell out of me!

I did offer to cancel the transaction so that they get thier fees back, twice actually. Do not worry though, I will not make a habit of it :nono:

?Huh, typo I hope? Since you have a current transaction with the SELLER, get their contact details & see if you can phone them to get resolution. Relying on emails is not such a proactive way to solve anything. Buyers remorse is painful for many sellers

Actually there is a new scheme going around for buyers - it is very easy even if the sellers opens a dispute to close it as paid .. i dont want to say how to do it because it has been done to me as a seller - ebay did reimburse the fees after i called them but did nothing to the buyer - it involves money orders actually -which cracks me up as i thought they frowned on it.

My experience from many years ago. I think it is three in a year, though...but like so many other things with ebay...that could have changed

Since most of you around here seem to be sellers, I would like to have your opinion on this...

The item I won is something that the seller only has one of... In the listing, it stated that the buyer has 7 days to pay, at which point the item gets relisted and an unpaid item case is open... Looking at it one way, I am in breach of contract by not paying within 7 days... But looking at it another way, does relisting this "one of a kind" (for the seller) item just void the contract between us? Because now it is back up for sale, and there are people who have already bid on it... If I pay within the next couple of days before the unpaid item case closes, the seller would have to end the new auction and upset the bidders... So, by having this "7 days and relist" policy, it seems to me like the seller is simply saying I do not want to deal with any issues the buyer may have had for not paying...

What are your opinions on this? :typing:

I don't think that by listing the item he sacrifices the option to report you as a non-paying bidder.
If he indeed did re-list the item, why not send him a message apologizing and offering to pay his second listing fee as well as the original final value fee? If he plays hardball you can also offer to pay any difference should the price of the item not get as high as it did on your transaction.
I would be a little PO'd, but I'd rather have my fees back that to gift someone who got caught up bidding an unpaid item strike.
Usually if something like this happens to me if the runner up is close enaough I just sell the thing through a second chance offer

One more question. Do these cases close themselves, or does the seller have to close them? The case said I had to pay by August 10, and the relisted item has since sold, but the case is still open :shocked:

there is an automated tool on some sites that closes it for seller, other times the seller must close it. They are time-limited as you said
