Second Chance Offers

OK....

Thanks to the forum I found out that second chance offers can be made if you have duplicate items for sale. I did not know that. Back in the day, as far as I remember, they were only used when the winning bidder backed out.

This looks like a valuable tool as it costs nothing to try, the buyer is interested, and you know what they are willing to pay.

My one question is - when the second chance listing is created, it shows up on my eBay as a second chance offer, but has the format of an auction. So, is this viewable ONLY by the person you make the offer to, or is it viewable by anyone?

Yea I agree the second chance offer is a great tool.

I've been using it quite alot but in your eBay it should show up as a Buy it Now Format at least thats how it works on mine.

As far as I know its only viewable to you (ebay of course) and the buyer that you sent the offer to.

Hope this helps ;)

I have sold many items this way, sometimes 3 items with one listing, when bids are close to what i'll take. I agree with the above, they show up as a Buy It Now auction on your selling page. It def seems like they are only viewable by the buyer you present it to and you (and the all seeing ebay). I love these, its a take it or leave it offer. I have even sold stuff I didn't even have or had on the way, and told the buyer straight out I could only ship it in like 10 days or so, when item arrives early always get a Positive fb quick.

Yeah, second chance offers always get me a few extra sales, but out of 100 offers I send out only 10-20 will actually end up accepting. I seriously think a lot of buyers on eBay just enjoy the rush of bidding and winning an item. Second chance offers just seem like second place and they would rather win an auction on their own.

These eventually got me in trouble, because buyers always accepted them. So I sent out a lot, I mean a lot, and they always sold.
Eventually, Ebay and Paypal realize, hey this cat has quite a bit of stock, and they request invoices, supplier info, all that stuff.

Yeah... I also only get about a 10-20 percent reply to a second chance offer. But I did notice that, when my account was suspended the fist time for 7 days for a Vero warning, I could still submit second chance offers during the suspension (and for all previous auctions for at least a month or so). Second chance offers sure helped me to keep bringing in the money for that 7 day suspension.

I have used it a lot in the past as well, but not very much anymore. I always read the discussion forums on ebay as it's a great source of info. And I found that second chance offers are seen as suspicious by a lot of buyers, which is why you don't get many responses. A lot of buyers seem to think it sellers shill bidding and doing the second chance offers after they cancel their own bids. So beware there is some scrutiny on sellers that use it a lot.

All depends on what is being sold - I use Second chance offers all the time - some take, some not - I would estimate mine run at 50%.

That being said, the second chance offer is ONLY viewable by the party receiving the offer. It's NOT an open invite to all the eBayers.

In my experience second chance offers do not show up when someone does a search of completed listings...so if the auction was a "private" one there will never be a visable trail leading back to you.
