| | | FandangoKango | 09-19-2010 03:40 PM | ebay called me today.. 1st day of registration for stealth account... so i made a new ebay and paypal today stealth one with all good info and i just got a call today from ebay and some lady tells me this is part of ebay routine for new account sellers and she is just checking if i made the account and asked me my username and what i was selling..
i quickly forgot the username since i have other ones, but i just logged off one user account and logged into another one to check and i got the item wrong that i was selling, but i think she bought it lol.
this is just for reference for old and new stealth users. |
| stickmade | 09-19-2010 03:43 PM | Yeah i got hit with this i think aswell they shut down my ebay but and i had to schedule a call to confirm my identity. Once confirmed they re-opened my account |
| FandangoKango | 09-19-2010 03:46 PM | wow, i hope i don't get closed. ima make sure i have a reference paper handy quick. |
| holyhell | 09-19-2010 09:17 PM | I haven't gotten that call, my stealth is a few days old. I haven't gotten that call for my last few stealths, I have a theory, but shouldn't post it. |
| smithgroup | 09-19-2010 09:43 PM | Yeah i keep an Excel spreadsheet that is color coded differently for each account, then I black out an account that goes down.
If you want to do it low-tech, always have a notebook with the user id listed at the top of the page and devote one page of information per account (to avoid confusion if eBay puts you on the spot)
If you dont have Excel, you can download a free spreadsheet program at openoffice.org |
| FandangoKango | 09-20-2010 09:10 AM | Well I got suspended hours later mc0169! sucks. now they want id, and all kinds of things... |
Ugh, sorry to hear that. On my part, I don't use excel but I do keep sheets handy with me for all accounts and info in case of call...
I also try to keep birthdates simple just in case. |
| DogFacedBoy | 09-20-2010 11:06 AM | Luckily never happened to me, but I have had to take the "none of the above" test a couple of times.
I think the severity of the measures that they take has a lot to do with the types of items you are selling and the amount. |

You can expect 2 ID verifies from eBay. One is the softy call in. They lift your account, then you think everything is fine, and start listing. Then they hit you again after you start listing for ID, and invoices... If you get pass that you can then expect to be placed on a 30 day selling limit. eBay is a bich. |
So true IDK - add paypal nuisance on top of that and it's garbage |
| isitworththestress | 09-20-2010 07:24 PM | A funny line I read on another forum comes to mind where Donaho gets up every morning and asks "have they gone yet?" |
| bansheezone | 09-20-2010 07:35 PM | I have not ran into this yet and have new accounts running with none of these issues. The old i.d verification was an issue a few months back but that was because I didnt take my time. |
| isitworththestress | 09-20-2010 08:44 PM | Have there been many people anywhere but the UK had this done to them, I only recall one or two? |
| jamblix | 09-20-2010 09:52 PM | Everyday I read about users who need to verify their identity and people who have already experienced this. What are the triggers for eBay to check you? I have NEVER needed to verify my identity with eBay and I've got a good amount of stealth accounts. Just lucky I suppose? |

I opened 4 accounts over the years, and never got such a call. Ok , granted the first 3 were pre 2005, but the last one was mid 2009, and I never got the account limited, never got a call, and never had any questions on it whatsoever. I did start it slow, it is just the way it happened naturally though, not by design. And grew it slowly. But I began listing on it the same day I opened the account. I didn't know any different then. lol.
I would hazard to say it has a lot to do with what you are selling. |
| isitworththestress | 09-21-2010 02:23 AM | I only started hearing about this in the last four month, and apart from one or two they all seem to be based in the UK.
I am wondering if we have become the test subjects for this one before they expand the full system to the rest of ebay |
