| | | TRIALnERROR | 09-28-2010 07:30 PM | Back up accounts WITHOUT new phone line Maybe someone can give me some insight on this. Is it possible to set up an Ebay account either with a bogus phone number (e.g. (555) 555-5555) or no phone number at all with the knowledge of adding a line at a later date? These accounts would not be for selling on, just to mature and/or have for backup when needed.
Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for responding! |
| stickmade | 09-28-2010 07:32 PM | you need a phone number that you can access to verify the ebay & paypal as your creating them |
| jamblix | 09-28-2010 07:47 PM | That's a good question, I'd like to find out to. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think it's OK if you just need to let it age. You only need to actually verify the number when you start selling. |
| TRIALnERROR | 09-28-2010 07:59 PM | I agree. You only need to verify Ebay/Paypal when you list your first item. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On the other hand, does it really age if it sits without any purchasing or selling? I'm sure it ages in some way, shape or form.
Also,
Do you need a phone number to purchase items? |
phone number as far as I know you don't need a telephone number when you sign up and yes only for selling you will be asked. but if you read the stealth guide you will learn that you should have everything in place when you sign up because if you change anything later it may raise a red flag.
phone number is sometimes requested by the seller for international shipping. |
| TRIALnERROR | 09-28-2010 09:18 PM | Ebay users change personal info, phone numbers/carriers all the time. I see this as the same thing as using dial up and having your IP change every time you log in. Does anyone out there think an account sitting for 30 days followed by a phone number change would raise a red flag? |

But it depends.
Many people get tripped up not by ONE single mistake, but a COMBINATION of mistakes. The goal here is to not give them ANY REASON to scrutinize your account.
Yes, people DO change their phone numbers, of course and the account may survive it, but why take the chance? Tracfones are dirt cheap. |

The phone number you set up first, needs to have a correct CSA, or GSA. Area code/pre fix.... this is known as a coverage service area, or geographic service area. Most companies pick up on if the number is bogus based on the CSA's registered with the FCC. Phone companies purchase the rights in blocks of 10,000....
You don't need an active line to make an account, just to register as a seller. Although I don't like talking about this in the open, what's ebay gonna do? Start calling every account that lays dormant? no..... And, although my opinion is a tad biased, you could purchase an account from one of our professional account sellers as well :) |
| imjustme | 09-29-2010 07:22 AM | I haven't been required to set-up a phone call on any of my accounts that I created in the last 12 months in order to start selling. |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 12:32 PM | Is that just in North Korea? |

Why give them a reason, and Tracfones are dirt cheap. |

| First Edition | 09-29-2010 02:11 PM | you have to first phone verify the account in order to list......
(I just assumed your pic of Kim Jong-Healthy and country flag....) :) |

| First Edition | 09-29-2010 02:50 PM | WHAT??!?!
You don't have to phone verify to make a seller account? Surely you jest..... |
| imjustme | 09-29-2010 02:51 PM | Nope, no joke. I even made a post about this in the VIP forum a few days ago asking if anyone else also got stopped being asked about phone verification. It actually gives me a choice to either phone verify or email verify, so I choose email and I get the PIN sent to my email, that's it. |
| imjustme | 09-29-2010 02:58 PM | But I should add, I only get asked for the PIN verify over email or phone like 50% of new accounts, when I don't log into them for a while I guess or when eBay doesn't recognize the cookies. |

That's when it doesn't recognize the computer, not to actually make a sellers account.
How are you making a sellers account without phone verification? Maybe you need to start a thread in the more secure area..... |

Maybe you need to start a thread in the more secure area..... | correct, I can confirm, many worldwide sites do not require phone call to make seller account...they have alternate verifications, eg credit card aand here are we, buying voip and virtual lines, like chumps..... |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 04:02 PM | Specifically for the USA how would you go about this? |
| oompaloompa | 09-29-2010 04:05 PM | well thats what we are saying, USA and UK eb is phone verifcation for seller accs, so not possible to bypass. Although tbh, its no big deal really... |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 04:13 PM | Apparently imjustme doesn't have to with USA accounts....... |
| oompaloompa | 09-29-2010 04:17 PM | yes, I re-read beloved leaders post, I think he is talking about cookie non-recognition |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 04:31 PM | I agree..... |
| imjustme | 09-29-2010 05:32 PM | Uhm, I'm not being asked for phone verification during the seller account creation either. And neither when listing the first item. Maybe it's because of my good looks. |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 05:42 PM | Ebay asks how you intend to pay fees, then asks for a phone call.
Every time, 100% without fail. you're doing something different, or you don't understand me at all..... :) |
| imjustme | 09-29-2010 05:44 PM | Correct, and then it gives me either a choice of PayPal or Credit Card. And whatever I choose, I never get asked for a phone call.
:cheer: |
| GreenBean | 09-29-2010 05:46 PM | imjustme will understand you, never worry about that.:pop2:
I think a little discretion might be better |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 05:47 PM | no way...... just no way
how? I wanna see a youtube video of this or something :) Team viewer? Holy cow, that would save me such a hassle. |

. |
| imjustme | 09-29-2010 06:03 PM | I'm not bullpooping you, seriously. But it might have to do that I'm using IPs from outside the US (Asia, actually) even for creating US accounts. And I never had problems with the accounts getting suspended for that reason either. |
| First Edition | 09-29-2010 06:04 PM | but you're making it a USA account? with a USA address? | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 10:19 PM. | |
