ebay makes some pretty nasty cookies

I did a little experiment seeing how I just installed cookie monster on my laptop. I cleaned up all of my current cookies, visited ebay and just wanted to see what was cooking. They baked a full dozen. I then ate those up.
So then I went to google and just simply typed in ebay in the search and hit enter, waited a few minutes and hit refresh list within cookie monster. What do you know, google sent a reference to ebay and somehow allowed them to plant just about the same cookies into my computer.
This is really is nothing to worry about, but it is pretty interesting.
Why would google work with ebay like this? If you search other large companies you dont get any cookies... IT appears to only happen with mozilla

uhmm I think you need to learn how cookies work.. Its not that serious

Seller 01-28-2008 08:49 PM

Like I said it isent anything to worry about. And I understand 95 percent how cookies work. I just thought it was interesting that google would be working with ebay to send a reference just for a search.
I dont think any of us are entering "ebay" into a google search. But if you did you would get some cookies.
As far as the seriousness of cookies. does anybody know just how serious they are? I just thought it was necessary to not have any from ebay when setting up an ebay account.
I just think this was interesting, from what I thought google doesent share any information with anyone. It looks like they give ebay a heads up when you do a search.

Google isnt working with them

I think this is pretty much how Google works in order to determine what ads come up on the right hand side of the search results page.
As CH said, I don't think that EB is working with Google

i tried a bunch of different searches and there wasent any cookies from those sites. How can you explain that...

DogFacedBoy 01-28-2008 10:27 PM

Maybe those ads come up if ebay is paying to have them come up whereas the other searches didn't have anyone paying...don't know, just a thought

I agree with Chris on this one. You don't need to worry about Google when it comes to search results. EBay is one of Google's largest advertisers; the cookies are most likely for search results and nothing more.

One more thing to remeber, thanks
