Advice please

Hi, I just sold an item which I wanted pick up only, and the buyer has asked me to drop it off at a relatives as they live 2 roads away from me, which is fine, I'm just wondering, am I supposed to ask for some sort of receipt, or proof that I do deliver it, so they can't say they never got it. What do I do in this case? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Best advice I can give you is to only accept cash on picked up or personally delivered items.

Do Not let the customer pay with PayPal. Lots of scams involving this as the customer can file a dispute of "Item not received" and will win 100% of the time.

Yes pickup is usually not the best option for paypal, but heres my advice you can tell him your going to ship a thank you note via traceable means and give the actual product via pickup just to be safe. That way you will have a tracking number.

Dont go to the place by yourself. Have a mate go with you. Also be very careful as TGMT said about how they pay. If you live in Birmingham, Manchester, make sure that a male of the house is home to respect their religious beliefs.

Whatever you do, do not leave the goods unless you get full payment. I'd really think of meeting them somewhere else and not their home or your own place. :spy:.

Yeah also take into consideration what GB said if the item is high priced, you might want to do the meetup in a safer place like a bank. If its a really low cost item then ok maybe not necessary. Safety first.

100x what he said! A written receipt will mean nothing to PayPal

I don't see why he would try anything considering you have his address. That's a :nono:

GreenBean 11-18-2010 02:01 AM

My natural instincts kick in. There are some real low lifes. Yes, this might be OTT but:

the buyer gives the seller an address. The address is a vacant house that still has furniture in it. See where I am going?

Never risk yourself personally for a sale :peace:

nicetrypaypal 11-18-2010 02:16 AM

he don't have his address. he has an address that ebay has,,

that address might be a taco bell. if hes a scammer, i'm sure he put in a STEALTH address..

lol lol i mean most on here, we don't use our real addresses. so..........

wow thank you for all the replys, unfortunately i've already received payment through paypal. but i checked his feedback and its 100% positive an he's bought similar items before, and he did know the street names around my area, so he sounds safe doesn't he?

I've def learned my lesson though, shame it was my first time selling and didn't occur to me till after the sale

Never assume rolly...it might not be even the original owner of the account.

You have to play safe when dealing with customers upfront face-to-face. Too many possibilities as other informed posters have stated.

Even if he's good buyer, keep in mind you have zero protection. None

If he lives a few blocks away, why PayPal?
Tell him point blank you would prefer to refund paypal and get cash. If its a lot of money protect yourself!

This is like CraigsList for the UK. You CAN get scammed. Never meet in public, only accept cash!

These are just basics...
