Now have to verify 4 buyers acc!

Hi all,

Dont know if this is old news but while setting up a few accounts this morning was asked to verify with a phone call or credit card. This wasn't for a selling account just a buying account (Usually they ask for these details when u open a selling account).

I suppose in a way its good as it will hopefully discourage people from setting up accounts just to neg competitors.

koalawash 02-14-2008 03:34 AM

LOL I think that's exactly why they're doing it. I only think it's good as they're continuing to shoot themselves in the foot with their increasingly unrealistic signup requirements..

thelizardking 02-14-2008 03:35 AM

I haven't heard of that one. I think alot of this stuff is random.

koalawash 02-14-2008 03:36 AM

I'm sure it's random.. in fact, I registered both a new ebay and paypal account yesterday and neither was asked for any further verification just to sign up as a buyer.

Unless you mean they do it later on, after you sign up but before you start to sell..?

regal 02-14-2008 03:41 AM

No, its as soon as you sign up. I'll try it with another account later on. It might just be in the UK.

thelizardking 02-14-2008 03:42 AM

No just for a buyers account I think its random. I heard people also saying they were asked to add a cc and bank to start listing. Ive never had that happen.

Ballsack 02-14-2008 06:56 AM

I've had this happen twice already. It's not so random. Eventually it'll become a requirement so if you can register as many accounts now as possible.

regal 02-14-2008 07:38 AM

Agree with above, allthough when i tried again with another account i didn't have to verify. I imagine they are just testing the water and it will become a requirement sooner rather then later.

k1ley4evr 02-14-2008 09:20 AM

it has only happened to me when i used a annonymous proxy

ebayhateluv 02-14-2008 09:26 AM

HI,
I have had this happen when my new telephone wasnt listed, or wasnt a common one for the area,
also--seems to happen if youre a male between say 20-45 ??
Have only had it happen on females once in a while, mostly male names..
Maybe the males are the "higher credit risks" ??:)

Looks like good grounds for a law suit :p

No doubt the day will come where buyers will be required to add a bank account and accept direct debit...

koalawash 02-14-2008 05:05 PM

ebayhateluv,

I wouldn't be surprised if what you said about the female names was true! But the problem with registering under a female name as a guy comes when paypal tries calling you on the phone.. ;)

koalawash 02-14-2008 05:09 PM

(response to a post above this that was somehow deleted)

Ballsack 02-14-2008 05:25 PM

My names are never human.

GreenBean 02-14-2008 07:52 PM

When paypal does call you on the phone and hears the male voice with the
girl's name (or vv), just tell them you are undergoing a sex change. They finish
the call quickly. You have to learn to think quickly on your feet!

ebayvictim 02-14-2008 08:00 PM

ROFL. That's a good one!!

koalawash 02-14-2008 10:31 PM

LOL.. GreenBean, have you actually done that??

GreenBean 02-14-2008 10:48 PM

Yes. I have done that to two different organizations. The point is that this allows you to keep the upper hand and sure makes them squirm.
It creates a warning bell "discrimination"....

koalawash 02-14-2008 11:07 PM

Although since Paybay looks at this forum so closely, I wonder if they'll change how they react to something like this. They would probably have you fax your doctor records or something. ;)

ebayvictim 02-14-2008 11:17 PM

I can see it now....please verify thru two of three following methods that you are transgendered....! LOL

GreenBean 02-15-2008 12:17 AM

Hmm, somehow the probability of discrimination might deter that...... you just
scream in a tizzy fit voice.

highwhey 02-15-2008 01:21 AM

This thread is hilarious. Sex change...LOL
