Does eBay Canada also have a merchant account requirement if you don't use PayPal?

Just wondering if some of you guys are from Canada, do they also require you to have a merchant account if you don't accept PayPal? Or is that for US sellers only?

I haven't tried sending in any merchant statements yet. I have a several US merchant accounts and also a Canadian one that I haven't used for eBay yet, but I'm looking to sell a few items that are $1000+ each and I don't want to accept PayPal for it. So I'm thinking about making either a US or Canadian eBay account and accepting payments through the merchant account.

How long did it take you guys to have eBay verify the merchant statements?
