Old ebay account

Does anyone know much about the changes that happened to ebay in 07 and how it affected accounts opened prior to that? I read somewhere that if you have an account prior nov 07 your safe. Does anyone know in what way?

Welcome to the forums.

Having a pre 07 does NOT mean you are completely safe. It means you can implement merchant payment processors easier than newer accounts but you still have to go light and follow proper methods to keep account alive otherwise you will be limited like any new account.

Any new account now can add a merchant account in under 5 mins with Authorize.net, and other approved gateways that ebay allows.

The reason these 07' accounts were talked about was because back in day you had to fax ebay a merchant statement to get approved after 11/07 so if you a merchants account those 11/07 were the ones you wanted, and with Auctiva checkout when it was allowed as a third party checkout you had it made.

my question is i had a 1999 ebay account that I found and reinstated it two days ago. It still has my old address. When or how should i change address. I read if you change everything at once it gets a red flag! Only thing is my wife's account got suspend and I don't want to linked. If i change just the number of my address slightly will they link it....my post lady knows my name so we will still get package

rsot 03-30-2011 11:08 AM

@bansheezone, but can you automatically process credit cards without providing merchant statement proof on new accounts? Maybe you can clarify - I could be out of date.

Just leave it alone unless you plan on buying a lot of crap with it. For selling, it's already good to go. Don't throw a legit 1999 account away with stupid mistakes.

bchrist430 03-30-2011 12:03 PM

so your saying leave the ebay address as is....if someone whats to return item have they contact me and sent to my current address?

and if i do buy I can change the address on the screen before i confirm purchase?

unkown5454 03-30-2011 03:35 PM

You can never use the banned address again anywhere.

If you want to accept returns, use an address you are sure has no history or USPS/UPS Box, but only e-mail it to the buyer if/when the situation occurs. I highly recommend never altering anything in this 1999 account.

If you want to buy, create a stealth account and alter your shipping address so as not to get banned again.

Keep these separate...IPs, Windows User Names, etc. This is my best advice from harsh experiences.

bchrist430 03-30-2011 04:21 PM

sounds good. thanks for info. I still not sure what I'm going to do. only concern would be old paypay is having issues. might have to go stealth on paypal

unkown5454 03-30-2011 05:36 PM

What is wrong with the old Pa yP al?

Damo111 03-30-2011 06:45 PM

thanks for that.
I was also wondering why auctiva is recommended in stealth ebook when it asks you to get a ebay token to link the two? Does each steath account need a seperate auctiva account in that case?

bchrist430 03-30-2011 07:07 PM

i called and they say i owe $600 from case i lose back in 08....to resolve would be $500. I guess the good thing if i do resolve I would be "legit" for my paypal and ebay. I would just resubmit new bank info for paypal. And again would I change the paypal address? or keep same as ebay which is old address? or until they need to verifiy on something

I would still change user id, ip, clean cookies so that my old account does link to suspend account

unkown5454 03-30-2011 08:48 PM

Keep everything matching between Pa yP al and eB ay. Slap on a new bank account and you are ready to rock. Just take it slow and don't fly out of the gate trying to be a millionaire overnight. Old accounts can easily be limited just like any new account, especially with no activity in years.

Hi, I am new and i have like 5 1996 account i have been using,

As far as the addresses, they are right dont change anything. If someone wants to send something back, heres what i always do on every item shipped.

I have little return addresses already printed off, so i print with ebay and paypal without changing anything, they i simply peel off 1 of my return address sticky things, and simply post it over top my return address that was printed through ebay/paypal.

You cant see through it and it is good sticky material so it cant peel off..

just my 2 cents. this is my first day so hopefully i did not over stpe my boundaries. thanks

bchrist430 03-31-2011 11:12 AM

thanks for info. I find out I owe paypal $500, so i will pay that off so then i will have
a legit ebay/paypal acct.
Do you think they will want to verifiy when i start selling again. only concern if they do i don't have anything that as old address

Jackson_1 03-31-2011 11:26 AM

I just got a message from ebay re: a new sellers
acct that said something like "please contact us within 48hrs
to answer some questions about your new acct." What should
I do?

No. I've paid off old accounts before and you can start selling immediately. But, like I said before, don't start listing hundreds of items or anything really expensive right away. Start slow, as if it was a new account.

Welcome to the forums - do as instructed - call from your registered phone number and be ready - search forums for questions they may ask.

Such a simple idea and no one will ever see that address but the buyer. Excellent tip!

I guess by adding a pay button in the auction or through a email. I would rather just add my a.net key and login id and have the ebay checkout which people feel safer with.
