| Lisa B | 02-29-2008 03:42 PM | Extend eBay Boycott - Is this True? |
Mr_Wolf | 02-29-2008 03:48 PM | It would not make a difference..
Frankly, eBay is about to take a major dump with its stock value. Because of new policy coming in May.. Sellers will stop selling, thus eBay will loose revenue.. Thus their stock value will lower..
If there was any time perfect for launching eBay competitor, the time is right now. |
LoveEbayNHateEbay | 02-29-2008 03:58 PM | I know there has been talk about extending it to March 3. I would keep going. But, I can't. I need to save up for the upcoming hospital stay and my oldest is going to prom in April and she has already cost me over $300.00 and we haven't gotten shoes and jewelry yet! |
imjustme | 02-29-2008 04:28 PM | There's no need for a boycott. The real damage eBay will take when the PowerSellers start leaving, not because of the boycott but because they get suspended by eBay and eBay makes it more and more difficult for sellers to achieve PowerSeller status. |
anotherguy | 02-29-2008 05:43 PM | What new policy is coming in May? |
mantisinc | 03-01-2008 08:14 AM | Yea, clearly the last planned boycott did not make any difference at all, or I certainly have heard of anything related to it.
I think the talk on boycotts really is a waste. It's not going to achieve anything. |
twdell | 03-01-2008 08:26 AM | i read an article that came out during the boytcott week, and an ebay representative said they have no plans to change their new policy no matter how effective the boycott was. |
mantisinc | 03-01-2008 08:34 AM | Somehow that doesn't suprise me. They would look pretty weak if a boycott was to force them to change one of their policies. |
ivegotinfo | 03-01-2008 10:55 AM | i bet like 0.001% of all sellers took part in the boycott
this won't affect them at all. |
And the new policy coming in May is.............? |

Ebay will make record profits and will continue to make even more profits when they have stricter rules next year. |

While it is true the boycott will have no effect, Ebay's growth has stagnated and will only continue to fall. I wrote an in-depth analyisis 5 years ago and their problems, and they have only gotten worst. Basically they have hit the "tube sock" scenario. Like when tube sock/"made in China" vendors took over the local flea markets. I large portion of their profits come from powersellers all selling the same "made in China" crap, you can not even find the regular stuff. Profit margins for the sellers are pushed to razor-thin and people find other selling venues. Combine this with the scams, ripoffs, bootlegs, bad press, high fees and you have a recipe for disaster. It is lucky for them they are so large as to operate as a monopoly, but websites like ecrater, amazon, bidville, bidtopia and others are starting to eat away at them little by little. |
